Position Summary
The Jones Graduate School of Business is seeking an Accounting Assistant II to assist the Office of Financial Services with budget operations and financial record keeping. They will participate in the administration and monitoring of Rice Business operating budgets and are expected to become familiar with the school’s endowed funds and all sources of income. The duties and responsibilities for this position include providing accounting and administrative support to all departments, faculty, student clubs, and other groups as needed, processing expenses from all departments, assisting in the analysis of supplies and expenses, and initiating accounting entries as necessary.
The Accounting Assistant II position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are enthusiastic about processing invoices, working with internal and external customers and are in the early stages of their accounting career. It's an ideal role for those who possess a genuine interest in financial matters and are looking to build their expertise in accounting. This position is a full-time position within a hybrid work environment (minimum 4 days in the office per week)
Hourly Hiring Range: $21.00 $22.69, with hiring salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 2 years of related experience
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted.
- Skills
- Advanced knowledge of word processing, email, spreadsheet software programs to complete work assignments.
- Strong attention to detail
Essential Functions
- Reviews, processes, and reconciles invoices and expenses.
- Prepares detailed expenditure and budgetary reports.
- Analyzes information and maintains a database of designated revenue transaction and tax information.
- May serve as the purchase agent.
- Reviews and interprets legal documents for financial terms and conditions.
- The primary point of contact within Rice Business for access and training related to Rice University iO procurement and Accounts Payable System.
- Primary support for travel and business expense reimbursement functions within Rice Business
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Preferences
- Professional experience working in higher education.
- Notary Public license
- Familiarity with Rice University accounting systems or similar systems such as iO/Oracle
- Knowledge of fund accounting
- Mastery of organizing large data sets using pivot tables
