BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, perform technical duties related to District certificated and classified HRS system; provide information and assure compliance of individual and employment; prepare and process payrolls and benefits deductions and payments, prepare financial records for one or more major fiscal accounts at the District level or perform complex accounting and bookkeeping work; prepare, develop, monitor and maintain computer generated financial statements and reports for an assigned independent auxiliary program such as Food Services.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Incumbents in the Senior Account Technician classification perform basic level accounting duties. Accountant/HRS
Specialist incumbents perform difficult and complex financial and accounting functions and assume primary responsibility for the personnel section of the HRS employee database.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
● Prepare and maintain a variety of difficult and complex financial and accounting records, ledgers and reports; maintain a variety of files. E
● Provide information to District personnel regarding various records, budgets, accounts and programs. E
● Direct accounting activities for an assigned major program such as Food Services; prepare complete financial statements assuring proper financial controls and practices in conjunction with accepted accounting principles. E
● Prepare and monitor departmental purchase orders and requisitions,; check requisition for proper account codes; set up new accounts as needed. E
● Provide for the proper processing of accounts payable; code and prepare invoices for payment; monitor time line for applicable discounts post activity to computer. E
● Prepare and review expense transfers; input transfer data into computer and verify for accuracy; prepare federal reimbursement claim. E
● Evaluate financial condition of assigned programs; develop trend information and communicate issues or problems to management. E
● Reconcile benefits and voluntary deductions to vendor statement. E
● Prepare fiscal reports for student body accounts. E
● Provide for the proper collection and accountability of monies received. E
● Respond to questions from employees or other individuals regarding interpretation of laws, regulations, contracts, District policies and accounting procedures. E
● Code time sheets and prepare for payroll input as assigned. E
● Assist the Director with projected budgets and spreadsheets for assigned programs; prepare and monitor budget
revisions; code budget accounts. E
● Perform related duties as assigned. E
● Perform responsible and technical duties related to HRS Employee Database System; provide information and assure compliance of individual and collective employment procedures. E
● Prepare and process classified, certificated, management, hourly/daily employees on the HRS system. E
● Review personnel Notices of Assignment to assure compliance with current rules, regulations and contract requirements; assist in the resolution of issues, conflicts or errors. E
● Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports, including payroll, retirement and other benefits issues. E
● Process through HRS programs such as health insurance, retirement plans, salary deductions and electronic fund
transfers; verify and research issues related to monthly deductions. E
● Operate office equipment including a computer terminal, typewriter, copier and calculator. E
● Operate a computer to input various data related to employees using HRS and other systems; update assigned
systems with new information as appropriate; prepare and generate reports, records, charts and matrixes
utilizing assigned systems. E
● Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in business, accounting, payroll, taxes and related areas and three years increasingly responsible payroll and benefits experience.

SALARY:
Salary is based on placement on the Classified Salary Schedule as it relates to qualifications, education, and verifiable contracted experience. Schedule N Range 33 (35.62 - 43.31)
