Position Summary
The Accountant position is pivotal in maintaining financial health and compliance within our organization. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing journal entries, completing month-end processes, financial account setup, and monthly reconciliations.
The Accountant position involves processing healthcare invoices and is responsible for monthly healthcare analysis preparation. Additionally, the role entails the meticulous preparation of the annual reports, and conducting reconciliations to maintain precise financial records.
The Accountant serves as the designated backup and support for both payroll and accounts payable functions. As such, they are required to acquire and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the related job duties associated with both payroll and accounts payable processes. This includes staying informed about relevant procedures, regulations, and best practices to ensure a seamless transition and effective support.
The Accountant position requires strong analytical abilities, and proficiency with computer applications. The position must also have strong communication skills to maintain cooperative working relationships with other departments and agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Setup and maintain financial accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Perform accurate and timely journal entries to maintain the integrity of financial records.
- Lead month-end processes, including expense and revenue report generation and reconciliation.
- Process healthcare invoices and prepare monthly healthcare analysis.
- Handle excise tax preparation and journal entry/remittance.
- Assist with the preparation of Annual Comprehensive Financial reports.
- Complete quarterly funding reconciliation.
- Conduct small and attractive audits to ensure compliance with financial policies.
- Act as a liaison with the state auditor.
- Research and provide documentation for financial public records requests.
- Act as a designated back-up for payroll and accounts payable functions.
- Conduct monthly account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations.
- Monitor and review budget compliance and assist in budget preparation and transfers.
- Review and approve accounts payable batches, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Prepare and review quarterly reports related to FMLA, CARES, L&I, and unemployment.
- Conduct capital outlay auditing to ensure proper allocation of resources.
- Handle unclaimed property matters to maintain compliance with regulations.
- Coordinate with team-members to prioritize assignments and maximize department efficiency.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by leadership.
Education, Experience, and Licensing

Required
- High School Diploma or GED;
- 18 years of age or older;
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record; and
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Preferred
- College level coursework in Accounting, or related field;
- 2 years of experience working in accounting (preferably governmental);
- Knowledge of RCW’s and WAC’s;
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; or
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an office setting and in board meeting rooms. There is daily use of computers and frequent dealings with other Offices and Departments. Position’s duties are performed with frequent interruptions and deadlines. Position may be required to attend professional conferences and meetings outside of the office setting.
