Access Services Department, Part-time Evening and Weekend Supervisor - Gumberg Library

Salary: $17.00/hr
Location: Gumberg Library
Position Status: Part-time  (21 hours perweek, 46 weeks per year)

POSITIONSUMMARY:

Reporting to the Access ServicesManager, the ASD Evening and Weekend Supervisor supports Gumberg Library'spatron-centered services in circulation, resource sharing, course reserves,stacks maintenance, building access and usage. As the supervisor-on-duty, theperson in this position ensures that the safety and security functions of GumbergLibrary are in place and are being followed by everyone using the libraryservices and building spaces. In addition to leading the evening projects andclosing procedures, with the help of student employees this person willroutinely perform stacks management functions, compile reports and data, assistpatrons, and collaborate and cross-train with other Library departments asnecessary.

 

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates a welcomingand safe environment for library patrons and staff through active listening,leading by example, and referring questions accurately as necessary

Assists Gumberg Library patrons, in person,over the phone, and through email

Supports library-to-library lending andborrowing by processing loan requests

Employs attention to detail in preparing itemsto ship through UPS system

Opens/Closes the building following theprocedural checklist

Be alert and mindful of the happenings in thebuilding

Submits a supervisor report at the end of eachshift, communicating progress on projects, updates, or areas of concern thatthe rest of the ASD team should know.

Responds appropriately to emergencies, alarms,and building-related issues

Writes and submits a succinct and clearincident report describing issues with the condition of the building and/or theneed to contact Duquesne University Police Officers regarding securityincidents or emergencies

Assists in the oversight of work carried outby student assistants during their work shift, such as hourly headcounts,staffing the front desk, and shelf reading

Charges/discharges materials through theintegrated library system, FOLIO

Completes special projects as assigned

Completes otherduties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience working in a public service area ofa library, or any equivalent combination of experience and training, whichprovides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essentialjob functions

Ability to prioritize tasks for self andothers, and to adapt to changes in workflows

Strong commitment to customer service

Organizational skills

Basic computer literacy including the use ofe-mail, word processing, spreadsheets

Ability to maneuver 35 lb. book carts and movebooks, including reaching and lifting.

Ability to understand, and willingness tosupport, the University Mission Statement

Ability to multi-task with frequentinterruptions

Duties of this position will beperformed under minimal supervision; therefore, the use of independent judgmentwill be necessary for resolving complex problems

Willingnessto work a nontraditional schedule that is contingent on departmental needsand/or semester

Preferred qualifications:

Earned undergraduate degree from anaccredited institution

Supervisoryexperience

Experiencecompiling and managing data

Familiaritywith academic and/or research library systems: Library of Congress, FOLIO,interlibrary loan

Basicknowledge of copyright law and "fair use" guidelines applicable to libraries
