Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary: With a focus on retention and student success, this position advises undergraduate students in the College of Communication & Information Sciences with attention on academic schedules, registration, and degree progress issues alongside holistic student success including engagement, wellbeing and transition. The Academic Advisor provides assistance with new student orientation by facilitating presentations to both students and parents. Additionally the Academic Advisor teaches CIS 100, a course specific to new students in the College. As a member of Tisch Student Services & External Relations, Academic Advisors also assist with event planning, program coordination, communication to students and the recruitment of new students.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills (written and oral). Strong computer skills and knowledge. Strong presentation and teaching skills.
