Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.
Additional Department Summary: Provide proactive, holistic academic advising, case management and support for freshmen in the university’s Crimson EDGE and Exploring 4 Success programs.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work with a diverse population. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management, etc.). Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures. Knowledge of advising and academic management software (Banner, DegreeWorks, OnBase, MS Office, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or 18 graduate semester hours in a teaching discipline in areas including STEM (preferred), Business, Higher Education, Student Development, or related fields. Advising, case management, and support experience with undecided, undeclared, and/or exploratory students. Advising, case management, and support experience with underserved populations and underprepared new freshmen students. Program design and development experience.
