Job Description
The Shift Supervisor oversees production by providing supervision and leadership to the second shift team members and ensuring production remains on schedule. Monitor and prioritize work orders so that urgent internal/external customer requirements are met promptly. This position will interface closely with the Production Cell Supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Review the daily Production Order List Report and assign production orders.
- Coordinate to see that all raw materials, tooling, and gages required for each job use 5S and Pull system/lean methodologies.
- Schedule continuous production orders and get components staged for multiple work orders for the 2nd Shift.
- Expedite and coordinate the team members to get the product to the Shipping Department for shipping or inventory.
- Review the first piece inspection for finished products to verify that they are made to the engineering drawing. Sign off on finished goods so that products can move to shipping as soon as they are completed.
- Ensure that production orders within their work cell are set up and manufactured by route times /TAKT times and that deviation from BOMs or Routes only occurs with engineering approvals.
- Work Order closing.
- Cycle counting is based on cycle scheduling or as needed.
- Maintain quality of product produced within work cells. Maintain scrap reporting and other tools to work toward improving product quality, internal and external.
- Use 5S to ensure that all tools and supplies in the work cell are kept in the appropriate location daily.
- Train new and existing team members in the proper operation of equipment, manufacturing process, and safety rules.
- Ensure that tasks are assigned based on the individual capabilities of members of the production team.
- Implement Lean methodologies for all work cells supervised such as TAKT time, 5-S, PM, SQDC metrics maintained.
- Review Daily cell metrics using SQDC methodologies. Work with Plant Manager to complete daily and weekly/monthly reporting, as needed.
- Lead and participate in daily reviews on SQDC metrics. GEMBA walk participation as required.
- Oversee and implement all continuous improvements in the cell.
- Coordinate and work with Engineering on all process-related changes for existing products, including tooling tests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of directly related supervision experience.
- CNC machining experience and working knowledge of mechanical assembly and fabrication.
- Experience in managing in a Lean environment and continuous improvement methods.
- Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Excel.
- Read and understand blueprints/drawings.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of various types of equipment and processes such as Micrometers, Calipers, Air and power tools, Rulers, tape measures, and gages
