Supervises: All groundskeeping staff
Classification: Exempt
Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent is tasked with supporting the Senior Assistant and Golf Course Superintendent through daily golf course maintenance.
Essential Functions
Leadership

• Promotes a positive work culture.
• Manage golf course maintenance staff on weekends and lead small projects.

Golf Functions

• Directly involved with the daily golf course set-up activities.
• Involved with irrigation maintenance and repair.
• Responsible for calibration and application of chemicals and fertilizers.
• Manage daily course moisture using a POGO meter.
• Track data and seasonal fertility with the Greenkeeper app.

Administration

• Administer proper safety training and briefings to staff when training in equipment and general course operation.
• Protect the Snowmass Club's interest through an awareness of and compliance with all applicable regulations including course and company policies.

Other Functions

• Able to evaluate the course from the player's perspective.
• Snow removal during winter months.
• Assist equipment manager with equipment setup, repair, and maintenance.
• GCSAA member preferred.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience

• A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant, or soil science is preferred.
• One turf management internship is preferred.
• Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent.

Licenses and Special Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Must obtain and maintain a state-sanctioned pesticide applicator license within six months of entry into this job.
• Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and automatic controls and drainage.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock.
• Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment that is typical of this position.
• Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling/lifting to 100 pounds.
