Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent is tasked with supporting the Senior Assistant and Golf Course Superintendent through daily golf course maintenance.
Essential Functions
Leadership
- Promotes a positive work culture.
- Manage golf course maintenance staff on weekends and lead small projects.
Golf Functions
- Directly involved with the daily golf course set-up activities.
- Involved with irrigation maintenance and repair.
- Responsible for calibration and application of chemicals and fertilizers.
- Manage daily course moisture using a POGO meter.
- Track data and seasonal fertility with the Greenkeeper app.
Administration
- Administer proper safety training and briefings to staff when training in equipment and general course operation.
- Protect the Snowmass Club's interest through an awareness of and compliance with all applicable regulations including course and company policies.
Other Functions
- Able to evaluate the course from the player's perspective.
- Snow removal during winter months.
- Assist equipment manager with equipment setup, repair, and maintenance.
- GCSAA member preferred.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- A degree or advanced knowledge of agronomy, horticulture, plant, or soil science is preferred.
- One turf management internship is preferred.
- Desire to become a Golf Course Superintendent.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain a state-sanctioned pesticide applicator license within six months of entry into this job.
- Knowledge of irrigation including watering practices, irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and automatic controls and drainage.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock.
- Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment that is typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling/lifting to 100 pounds.
