Special Education Paraprofessionals have the unique responsibility of ensuring that the projects and curriculum students engage with are accessible and meaningful for students who have IEPs. The Gathering Place believes at its core that school is a place where all people belong, and therefore believes in fully inclusive classrooms. Special Education Paraprofessionals at The Gathering Place spend the majority of their day in classrooms with students and also work collaboratively with Art, PE, classroom, and assistant teachers to ensure that the modifications and accommodations needed for individual students to thrive and engage are not only being met, but implemented in a way that honors and celebrates the inner-brilliance of all students.
Job Description
- Support the mission and design principles of the District.
- Embody TGP Collective norms.
- Support an assigned caseload of students with IEPs. Caseload may shift throughout the year with little to no notice when students transfer in or out, or when students qualify for SPED services.
- Provide 1:1 and small group services to children based on their IEP. Services may be academic, behavioral, or social-emotional, or a combination of any of the above.
- Support in all goals outlined in the IEP, which may include toileting, providing feeding support, and similar life skills.
- Work collaboratively with Special Education teachers to ensure IEP accommodations and modifications are implemented correctly in all classes.
- Work collaboratively with Special Education teachers to collect data and monitor progress and how children are doing while working towards their individualized goals.
- Provide in-the-moment interventions and de-escalation as needed with students in Special Education.
- Work with all student support team members to provide multi-faceted support and care for children as we work to support the whole child at TGP.
- Support the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic growth of students.
- Embrace a culture of feedback to continue growing in skills that support children's learning and development.
- Collaborate with teachers, members of the TGP Collaborative, and School Leaders.
- Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students.
- Participate in daily functions of the school such as arrival and dismissal duties, lunch duties, recess monitoring and the like.
- Attend critical school events such as Professional Development Days, school events for students, and school events for caregivers and/or community members as assigned.
- Meet professional obligations, including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines, among all other policies outlined in the Staff Handbook.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records and other required documents.
- There will be 1 one-hour staff meeting after school from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM every two weeks that are required for this role.
Qualifications
- Must hold a High School Diploma
- Fluency in Spanish is appreciated but not required
