Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse-ICU is a professional nurse who iseducated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patientsattain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes,and skills required for this position determines competency. The Registered Nurse- ICU provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS NursePractice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code ofEthics for Nurses and ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, ANA Code ofEthics for Nurses, the Joint Commission Standards, the CDC Guidelines forInfection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care,Treatment, and Services. Expectation isfor all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health Systemprocedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance andpublications for health care employees

Education:
Graduate from NLN school of Nursing.
License:
Current Mississippi State licensure to practice as aRegistered Nurse.
Certification:
All RNs are required to complete and maintain BCLScertification. RNs working in the ICU and/or Emergency Department are requiredto complete and maintain ACLS certification. RNs working in the nursery arerequired to complete and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation certification. RNsworking with pediatric patients are required to complete and maintain PALScertification. From the date hired, RNs have 12 months to acquire theappropriate certification.
Experience:
Appropriate nursing practice/experience within the past five(5) years or evidence of successful refresher program.
Physical Demands:
Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses manyphysical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Auditory acuity to hearpatient verbal communication and gather data using auscultatory skills. Manualdexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 6-7 hours per 8-hour shift andadroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Must be ableto stand for extended periods and do a great deal of walking withoutexperiencing undue fatigue. Must have high energy level and be capable ofhandling high-pressure situations. Potential exposure to communicable diseaseor radiation exists.
Mental Demands:
Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skillsin the management of acute and chronically ill patients.Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information inperson and by telephone. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with highstress level for 6-8 hours/8 hour shift associated with care of acutepatient/family, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands ofpatients and families, and demands of maintaining effective workingrelationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer service skills andprofessional etiquette. Must possessproficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboardproficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MSOutlook and Word.
