Salary: $4,751 - $5,776 per month (Range 34)

DISPATCHER
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision by the Director of Transportation or designee, assign substitute and field trip bus drivers;
maintain various records regarding transportation; assist bus drivers with operational problems; and do other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assign and schedule drivers to activity trips in coordination with the home-to-school transportation scheduling;
- Maintain activity trip accounting;
- Maintain records of extra hours worked for field trip drivers to ensure statutory compliance;
- Dispatch buses and drivers; assign substitute drivers and buses; maintain daily, monthly, and annual records on daily bus use;
- Assigning district vehicles as needed;
- Communicate effectively via the 2-way radio system;
- Compile reports such as all mileage period reports for home to school and special trips;
- Assist drivers with operational problems as necessary;
- May perform other related work as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- The geography of the department's service area, including school, bus loading areas, and other facility locations;
- Maintenance of time and cost records;
- Standard reporting procedures;
- California Motor Vehicle Code and Educational Codes applicable to the transportation of students;
- Safe driving practices
Ability to:
- Learn and use computer applications utilized by the Transportation Department, including but not limited to: routing and scheduling software;
- Prepare transportation routes and schedules;
- Read, analyze, and interpret documents;
- Write routine reports and correspondence;
- Communicate calmly, clearly, and concisely via the 2-way radio system;
- Work with minimal supervision;
- Perform repetitive tasks and manage multiple tasks;
- Respond appropriately to the direction and change in work setting;
- Meet predetermined deadlines;
- Make independent decisions;
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measures using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records and prepare clear and concise reports;
- Evaluate situations and determine priorities;
- Assist drivers with various operational problems;
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work;
- Access and use District-adopted web-based systems.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
- Possession of and maintain a valid California Driver's License during the course of employment;
- Have an acceptable driving record;
- Must be insurable at standard rates by the District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.

perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Physical Demands:
Sitting (continuously); stand, walk, bend, stoop, look up/down (occasionally); push, pull, twist,
squat, climb stairs (frequently); repetitive hand activities within close reach, such as keyboard, mouse, handwriting,
files and phone (continuously); lift/carry office supplies up to 10 pounds (occasionally); use vision, hearing and
speaking.
Working Conditions:
Indoor office setting; exposure to moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers and printers, light traffic);
office dust and possible fumes; exposure to seasonal outdoor temperatures.
