Job Description - Ocean Import Coordinator/Port Dispatcher
The purpose of this position is to record, facilitate the distribution of information and documentation to all concerned parties related to the daily shipping and receiving of merchandise. This includes dispatching port trucks, making appointments, keeping track of equipment, and servicing these shipments within the free time and customer requirements.
Job Duties :
- Organize incoming documents to insure required documents are received. Create manifests.
- Track/Trace all import shipments continuously for proper releases, holds, and appointments at the pier. Will require use of various websites, telephones, emails, contact with customs brokers, government agencies, steamship lines, pier contacts and documentation of all actions.
- Notify and Update customers regarding delays, arrival, delivery, and shipment status.
- Maintain current equipment inventory to assist in dispatching based on free time, need, and schedules.
- Dispatch full and empty containers to/from various terminals correctly and efficiently. Must have experience with multiple pier and intermodal websites.
- Contact customers and outside trucking companies to facilitate efficient product shipment.
- Assist other departments with documentation and scheduling of product relating to the daily shipping and receiving of merchandise based on customer requirements. Communicate effectively.
- General office duties includes (but not limited to) answering phones, taking messages, filing, copying, scanning documents, and emailing.
Job Requirements
- Minimum three (3) years experience in Imported Product shipment, drayage, logistics, and Inspections. However, candidates with experience or coursework related to International Business, Supply Chain Management, Transportation and Logistics are encouraged to apply.
- Port Dispatch experience - 3 years minimum
- Associates Degree
- Strong customer service, both external and internal
- Must be detailed oriented and check work continuously for accuracy.
- Time management, initiate, and strong ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a stimulating, hectic work environment.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions.
- Required Language: Read, write, and speak English fluently. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Must be punctual
Benefits Package: • Medical, 401K, Vacation, Holiday, and sick pay.
Shift: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm (overtime on occasion).
Job Type: Full-time, day shift
Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour (Based on experience).
