Job Overview

Dallas International School (DIS) is accredited by ISAS (Independent Schools Association of the Southwest), France's Ministry of Education, and the International Baccalaureate Organization.

With 686 students of over 30 nationalities, DIS is an international school on a human scale and the only one with a French and multilingual curriculum in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a city of seven million inhabitants which is in full demographic and economic expansion. DIS is proud to be one of the few schools globally to offer both the IB's Bilingual and Advanced Bilingual Diploma programs in a variety of languages. In addition to English and French, other languages currently taught in the school are Spanish, German and Mandarin Chinese.

The school offers a rigorous curriculum integrating the best practices of French and American education. Upon completion of the French Baccalaureate or the IB Diploma program, our students go to college in the United States or internationally in countries such as France, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain or Australia, among others.

This position manages the library collection and performs a variety of media center responsibilities, including working with groups of students in developing media skills and maintaining the school's literary collection.


Job dutiesinclude but are not limited to the following:

  • Handle subscriptions in French and English.
  • Initiate projects to encourage reading in French and English (e.g. questionnaire for a rally-lecture).
  • Initiate projects with class (e.g. French and English class).
  • Create a list of necessary books in each subject to build a real documentary fund dedicated to research for French’s track and IB students and teachers.
  • Introduce 12th grade students to documentation for their orientation.
  • Introduce Secondary students to French and American magazines.
  • Support and assist teachers in their research.
  • Assist and supervise Secondary students in their research in the library and on internet.
  • Initiate projects with class for special events.
  • Initiate projects for the « country » of the year and introduce Secondary students to the books and magazines relating to this subject.
  • Initiate activities around books or magazines for students and faculty to encourage reading and create curiosity to the events in the world.
  • Inform the school community about the projects in the library.
  • Meet with the Head of Secondary regularly during the school year.
  • Meet with the Head of Secondary at the end of the school year for a status report of the achieved work and projects in the library and fix orientation and goals for the year after.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Librarian are required.
  • Advanced computer skills are required including word processing, excel/data-entry, e-mail and Internet usage.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Advanced languages skills in French

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience as a Librarian.
  • Work experience and exposure to diverse languages and cultures strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a school environment.
  • Perfectly bilingual in French/English strongly preferred.
