2024-2025 Principal Elementary School - Rountree, International Baccalaureate (IB) School
Job Title: Principal- Elementary School

FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director- Elementary
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is responsible for ensuring the mission, vision, and school improvement plans reflect the IB mission and philosophy through revisiting and articulation with the school community (0101-01). Develops and facilitates a pedagogical leadership team charged with the continued development and implementation of the PYP (0101-02). The principal will be the leader in keeping the IB Learner Profile incorporated in curriculum, programs, activities, and daily operation of the school (0101-03). Responsible for leading the instructional process with specific responsibility for directing overall site operations, services, and staff at an Elementary School with a primary focus on improving student achievement, including enforcing established policies and regulatory requirements; coordinating school activities, and managing student and site learning and behavioral issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for the implementation of International Baccalaureate Standards and Practices as they relate to the Primary Years Programme.
  • Participates in and applies learning from International Baccalaureate training.
  • The principal ensures there is a clearly articulated site governance structure with roles and responsibilities established. (0201-01-0100)
  • The principal will keep apprised of IB updates and ensure there are structures and processes in place to ensure compliance. (0201-01-0200)
  • The principal ensures the daily schedule allows collaborative opportunities to meet the requirements of the program. (0201-03-0100)
  • The principal oversees curriculum processes and ensures practices align with IB philosophies and requirements. (0201-04)
  • The principal utilizes data to inform the operation of the program (0201-04-200)
  • The principal will advocate for appropriate funding and resources to support the implementation of the program. (0201-05)
  • The principal will ensure effective use of resources, including facility and technology. (0202-01)
  • The principal will ensure staff meet local requirements for which positions they are appointed. (0202-01-0200)
  • The principal will collaborate with the librarian to ensure a robust library program that positively influences teaching and learning. (0202-01-0600)
  • The principal will support systems and processes that identify the needs of students and monitors action to address needs. (0202-02)
  • The principal will work with the pedagogical leadership team to develop and implement plans to address the social and emotional well-being of students and staff. (0202-03)
  • The principal facilitates positive relationships with school families that are meaningful and enhance the school community. Included participation on the PTA executive board and collaboration with the school's PAT educator. (0202-05)
  • The principal will utilize relevant, current IB documents to guide school action plans and professional learning for implementation of the program. (0203-01)
  • The principal will work with the coordinator to ensure all staff attend required IB professional development. (0203-01)
  • The principal will allocate time within the weekly schedule and yearly professional learning schedule designated for collaborative planning and reflection. (0203-03)
  • The principal will collaborate with the pedagogical leadership team to ensure all policies are current, routinely reviewed, accessible to the school community, and aligned with IB philosophy. (0301-01; 0301-02; 0301-03; 0301-04; 0301-05; 0301-06)
  • The principal will collaborate with the coordinator, on a consistent basis, to establish a plan for designing, implementing, reflecting on, and communication of the programme of inquiry. (0401-01; 0401-02; 0401-03)
  • The principal will encourage and recognize student agency. (0402-01-200)
  • The principal will look for authentic means to include student voice in the school. (0402-03-300)
  • The principal will promote student action within the school community. (0402-05-0100)
  • The principal will monitor and evaluate staff in their use of inquiry practices. (0403-01-200)
  • The principal will support staff in their development of teaching in a conceptual framework through formal and informal professional learning opportunities. (0403-02)
  • The principal will promote the use of local and global context within the curriculum through resource development. (0403-03)
  • The principal will model and promote the use of effective collaboration skills. (0403-04)
  • The principal will utilize and model effective feedback strategies. (0404-01)
  • The principal will promote and support teachers in the use of a variety of assessment tools and strategies. (0404-02; 0404-04)
  • Provides instructional leadership focused on current research and best practices in order to continually increase student achievement.
  • Oversees all aspects of the instructional program, school environment and the operational/fiscal health of the school.
  • Supervises, monitors, and coaches staff in the building with a focus on growth and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the professional development of teachers and staff, including regular supervision and evaluations.
  • Fosters an environment where staff work cooperatively together and hold each other accountable to reach high levels of student achievement.
  • Fosters an environment where students and staff from diverse backgrounds are welcomed and supported.
  • Manages organizational systems and resources for a safe, high-performing learning environment.
  • Collaborates with families and stakeholders who represent diverse community interests and needs; mobilizes community resources that support and improve teaching and learning.
  • Allocates and coordinates the movement of resources to ensure the health, safety, and productive learning of staff and students.
  • Collaborates with other elementary, secondary and district administrators to provide an overall direction for teaching and learning in the school district.
  • Effectively manages school operations in terms of personnel, budgets, buildings and grounds, etc.
  • Promotes a positive tone for collaborative school/community relations by articulating the mission, seeking community support, encouraging diversity and fostering rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Confers with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies and student behavioral or learning issues.
  • Facilitates and oversees committee meetings as required.
  • Coordinates and supervises after-school events, activities, conferences and meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
  • Missouri School Administrator Certificate, required.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices; child development, brain development and best practices in education; curriculum development; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; and crisis de-escalation techniques.
  • Skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include effective hiring techniques; budget management.
  • Ability to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings and/or events; routinely gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • Ability to problem solve with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; adapt to changing priorities; and apply logical processes and analytical skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
