Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle, WA is currently recruiting for a full time teacher for Middle School Math and Digital Life for the 2024-2025 school year.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who is interested in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, culturally responsive and collaborative teaching, and working with highly motivated young students.
This teaching role will have responsibilities across two departments
Math Department:
- Teach 2 sections of math in Middle School as needed. The class size is 17-18 students;
- Provide academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra help, etc.), as needed;
- Collaborate and actively participate in the work of the Math Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
Digital Life Department:
- Develop and deliver dynamic Digital Life classes for Middle School students, with a focus on inclusivity, age-appropriate content, and engagement.
- Design and teach elective courses encompassing vital computer skills, digital literacies, computational thinking, coding, engineering, design, ethics, and artificial intelligence.
- Collaborate closely with the Digital and Information Literacy Department to spearhead innovative curriculum development, pedagogy enhancements, and effective assessment strategies.
- Promote hands-on learning experiences by leveraging a wide array of tools, electronics, computer software, hardware, and diverse technologies to enrich the learning environment.
All Teachers at Lakeside have the following responsibilities:
- Create engaging and effective lesson plans
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Utilize technology tools and resources to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Attend department and faculty meetings as scheduled;
- Act as an advisor or co-advisor to students and serve on a grade-level team;
- Participate in the life of the school community including outdoor trips, field trips, and service-learning days;
- Actively engage in professional development both in pedagogy, content area and diversity, equity and inclusion work.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A degree and preferably teaching experience in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Have a demonstrated interest in educating adolescents, in or out of the classroom, ideally with experience teaching Middle School, high school or college students.
- Have experience instructing a diverse student population (race, gender, religion, politics, etc.), including teaching students with different learning styles and past experiences with science.
- In-depth knowledge of advanced algebra and proficiency in teaching related concepts.
- Strong understanding of computer science principles and programming languages.
- Demonstrate proficiency across multiple programming languages and learning platforms, empowering students to excel in the realm of programming.
- Proven ability to differentiate instruction to accommodate different knowledge bases
- Enjoys a highly collaborative work environment that values academic rigor, innovation, inclusion and creativity.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.

- Be flexible and have a sense of humor (seriously, it's Middle School)!
- Candidates must satisfactorily complete three criminal background checks.

Salary and Benefits
Salary Range:$68,225 - $119,165 based upon experience and education.
