Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the LVN will provide nursing care to patients in the outpatient clinic setting. This includes participating in assessments, crisis intervention, dispensing methadone and buprenorphine, phlebotomy services, point of care testing, outreach, health education, monitoring patient health, basic nursing duties, record keeping including data entry for Medi-Cal / Medicare billing services, and medication services.
Work scheduled, Tuesday - Saturday.

Required Qualifications
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detail oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology

- Ability to walk one-quarter mile; ability to climb four flights of stairs; have adequate vision to describe contents of a room, client condition, etc
- Ability to provide outreach to clients in the community
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
- Understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward clients with severe mental illness who may or may not be housed
- Knowledge of Standard of Care and Standards of Professional Performance established by the Department
- Experience working with severely mentally ill, homeless, and dual diagnosed populations
- Knowledge of ethical, legal and confidentiality issues pertaining to persons with substance use disorder with severe medical and/or mental illness
Preferred Qualifications
- UC Experience
- One year of experience working with substance users, chronically mentally ill, and homeless populations
- One year experience doing community based case management
License/Certification
- Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Vocational Nurse IV Therapy/Blood Withdrawal Certification

Department Description
The UCSF/ZSFG Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Substance Abuse and Addiction Medicine (DSAAM) provides multi-disciplinary consultation and treatment for patients with substance use disorders at ZSFG. DSAAM provides medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder through the Opiate Treatment Outpatient Program (OTOP) at Ward 93 as, the mobile methadone van in the Bayview-Hunter's Point neighborhood, a novel primary care-based methadone treatment program, and the Office-based buprenorphine Induction Clinic (OBIC).
The target population for OTOP's methadone maintenance service is low-income medically/psychiatrically compromised opiate dependent individuals who reside in San Francisco, primarily in the South of Market, Mission, Castro, and Tenderloin areas. This includes a large proportion of people who identify as African American and Latino;, LGBTQIA; and women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and post-partum women. The target population includes people of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions or spiritualties, socioeconomic classes, partner statuses, and physical and mental disabilities. OTOP clients are low-income and uninsured or underinsured. This population has multiple comorbidities including substance use disorders, mental health conditions, medical conditions, and other barriers to receiving appropriate health care services. This population is at especially high risk for HIV.
