Youth Sports Coordinator - Multiple Locations

This position will be assigned to various branches to include Westside YMCA , Davis Scott YMCA, Najim YMCA, and Walzem YMCA on Saturdays.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Coordinator will assist the Sports Director and Senior Sports Director in overall program development, orientation and training of staff, and supervision of all staff on site. This person is generally on site every day of the programs and works before the program season beings after the close of the last week to wrap things up.
This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Distribute uniforms, coaches packets, and rosters to coaches.
2. Schedule and train youth and adult sports staff.
3. Assist in training and scheduling Youth Sports staff.
4. Assist Sports Director with administrative management - rosters, game schedules, and practice locations
5. Attend appropriate and required training classes offered by the YMCA of San Antonio.
6. Participate in volunteer development to include coaches meetings, training and recruitment.
7. Be a first line contact for player requests, roster changes, practice schedules, coach inquires, etc.
8. Update coaches and parents on status of requests.
9. Assist in monitoring budget expenses to achieve budgeted income and goals.
10. Promote the "YMCA Story" with all involved in the program.
11. Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.
12. Accountable for the maintenance of sports equipment.
13. Follow accident reporting procedures and policies.
14. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff.
15. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of two years of college or equivalent experience working with youth.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and volleyball.
• Must understand the basic concepts of a non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the
• Requires knowledge of computer software application and hardware. Employee must have working knowledge of Windows Office Suite.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to monitor department budgets and fiscal resources necessary.
• Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, and Defensive Driving.
• Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: CPR Pro and First Aid. If working at a location with a pool, must also complete O2 certification
• A Texas Driver's license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment and requires occasional work in off-site locations.
2. Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary.
3. Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
4. Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
5. Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.
6. Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.
7. Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
