Job description

YOUTH PROGRAM LEADER

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Site Director, the Youth Program Leader is responsible for the supervision, safety and health/well-being of assigned kindergarten through 6th grade students, enrolled in the YMCA's Youth Program(s). In addition the position is also responsible for assisting with planning, developing and leading recreational and enrichment program activities for participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Come to work with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
2. Supervises a group of assigned children.
3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
4. Follows CDC and County Department of Health standards, procedures and recommendations provided to them around health screening, physical distancing, and sanitizing.
5. Assist with the planning, developing and leading recreational and enhancement program activities for all participants, including those with special needs.
6. Continually take an active role in providing safe conditions at the site.
7. Be supportive of the YMCA's inclusive recreation program.
8. Keep accurate daily records as required by site.
9. Maintain positive reinforcement for each child and willingness to work with Sire Director and parents to enhance each child's experience in the program.
10. Attend staff training and all required staff meetings.
11. Follows YMCA polices and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
12. Maintains positive relations with parent(s) and other staff.
13. Document any accident/injury/incident on the Incident Report Form as appropriate.
14. Flexible and willing to work at other sites when needed.
15. Use program resources efficiently and ecologically.
16. Follows all Workers Comp/Accident Report procedures through completion of claim.
17. Other duties/projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TALENTS, and ABILITIES:
Youth - Experience with youth, their needs, and development strategies. Desire to have a meaningful effect on and build assets in the lives of attendees. Direct experience working with children in an active recreational and developmental atmosphere.

Development - Willingness to participate in opportunities that serve to develop staff in the area of youth development. Desire to work with and supervise young people in a setting that provides them with a variety of choices.

Member and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing professional member and personal services. This includes internal and external customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of member satisfaction. Great customer service attitude.

Communication - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Ability to provide clear & useful information in a gracious, respectful, and helpful manner to the public, vendors, members, supervisors, and co-workers, in written form, via e-mail, and in person.

Coordination - Understanding the relationship of all positions to each other, and their impact on the culture and meeting the organization's goals. Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions, i.e., team work.

Commitment - A commitment to the goals and philosophy of the YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Experience/ability to lead and communicate with groups of youth K-6th grade
0-12 ECE units (or equivalent) desired
Bi-lingual Spanish desired
Direct experience working with youth in an active recreational and developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on the lives of youth
Experience with team building and youth development strategies.
Good organizational skills, initiative and proactive attitude
A commitment to the goals and philosophy of the YMCA


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training.
Blood borne pathogens and concussion training as required.
Clear live scan (fingerprints) report.
Certifications need to remain current during employment.

Must be able to remain stationary or move for extended periods of time. Must be able to consistently operate a computer, phone or tablet. Must be able to detect and recognize safety and risk management opportunities, program quality issues and participant concerns. Must be able to transport and position 50 + lbs. of equipment. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Must be able to respond audibly and communicate for assistance in an emergency.
