Hiring Criteria:
The position may be a paid position and/or for school credit. However, the candidate must currently be a student attending college/university or must have graduated in the last six (6) months.
Education Requirements:
  • Majors in education, communication, psychology, a related field or a passion for working with young people.

Experience Requirements
  • Experience working with young people preferred.

License Requirements:
  • Current Colorado driver's license "R", with a satisfactory driving record required.
  • Must have reliable transportation for presentations around the Metro area.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • A background check including education and criminal history.
  • If driving is required, we'll also request:

    • A motor vehicle background check.
    • A pre-placement clinic appointment which may include a physical, drug and alcohol test, strength test, and worker's compensation background test.

Job Description
The Youth Education Program at Denver Water recently experienced one of its most successful years in program history, serving over 10,000 students and educators across the Metro area. The Water Education Intern will work with program staff to provide engaging, hands-on programs to youth in classrooms as well as after-school programs and at Denver-area events. Programs are designed to engage youth in exploring their relationship to water and discover the complex system that moves water to, through and away from our urban areas.
The Water Education Intern's primary responsibility will be to deliver presentations to youth in classrooms and informal learning environment. The intern will also help to maintain teaching materials and equipment as well as have the opportunity to develop a new presentation or create a new activity to engage young audiences in their exploration and developing understanding of Colorado water.

Position:
Part Time, 12 - 16 hours per week, ON-SITE.
Internship hours will be dependent on candidate's schedule and program needs. Hours are Monday - Friday primarily between 8:00 am -- 3:00 pm with occasional late afternoon or evening hours. Sporadic weekends may also be required.

Internship Project Description:
This intern will join the Youth Education Program in the Public Affairs division and will:
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on water education presentations to youth across the Denver Water service area.
  • Assist in maintaining teaching materials and equipment.
  • Support preparations for presentations by printing handouts, gathering materials and modifying PowerPoint presentations to customize delivery to requests
  • Participate in youth-focused outreach activities as part of community outreach.
  • Create a new activity that engages students and highlights learning objectives in existing program or develop new teaching materials that can be used during presentations.

  • Familiarity and enthusiasm for working with youth
  • Good communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Comfortable speaking in front of a range of group sizes and ages
  • Punctual, organized, friendly and self-motivated
  • Initiative to try new things, be creative and seek out alternative ways of doing
  • Spanish speaker highly desirable.

About Denver Water
Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
