Overview
The City of Fort Collins Recreation Department creates exceptional programs toserve an exceptional community. Our SUMMER CAMP programs (Camp FunQuest andFuntime Adventures Mini-Camps) are an opportunity for children to learn newskills, find new passions, stay active, and connect with their peers and othersin the community. Lead Counselors and Counselor Aides in our licensed childcareprograms are responsible for working alongside the Sr. Recreation Coordinatorsto oversee the on-site, daily operation of programs and the overall planningand implementation of activities for children ages 4-15 years old.

We are searching for strong, compassionate, experienced, and funinstructors to be S.I.L.L.Y. (Safe, Intelligent, Loving,Laughing, & uniquely You) with our children. Lead Counselorsand Counselor Aides must enjoy spending time with children, creating empoweringactivities, serving as positive role models to the younger generation, and be astrong leader. These positions report to a Sr. Recreation Coordinator.
Work Schedule
Lead Counselors and Counselor Aides begin traininghours on May 20. Camp begins on June 3 and ends on August 15.
All positions must attend MANDATORY pre-servicestaff training on May 20-24 and May 28-30. Most training hours will take placeduring the evening to accommodate PSD's end of semester scheudle. Full trainingdays will be scheduled when applicable and the full training schedule will beprovided during the interview process. Weekly work schedules will vary dependingon program needs. Camp program operating hours are M-F, 7:30am-5:30pm.Occasional evening hours would be required for all staff meetings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrativeof the primary functions of all camp positions and are not intended to be allinclusive.

-Encourage smiling and Laughing (even if you are the only one Laughing).
-Be You (unless you're a Yak and you yakety-yak all the time)! 

Duties
-A,B,C easy as 1,2,3 - Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized camp environment
-On the bus, octopus - May be required to drive 15 passenger vans to transport children
-What's shakin', bacon? - Greet children and parents in a friendly manner
-What's new, tennis shoe? - Attend regular staff meetings as scheduled, and communicate often with team members and supervisors
-Creativity in making everything S.I.L.L.Y.!

Lead Counselor
-Lead age-appropriate activities based on weekly themes, children's interests, and group needs while actively engaging and supervising all campers.
-Communicate daily with leadership staff about classroom management and activity/supply needs.
-Observe, document, and share information regarding camper behaviors in a positive manner.
-Keep classroom safe and clean by following program and City policies and procedures, and all County and State rules & regulations.
-Maintain knowledge of participant whereabouts through regular head counts and updating attendance rosters.
-Provide direction and guidance to counselor aides, volunteers and/or interns by modeling engagement, active supervision, and positive behavior guidance strategies.

Counselor Aide
-Ability to take and follow direction.
-Remain actively engaged with campers at all times.
-Provide positive and friendly interactions with all participants.
-Assist with classroom cleanliness and supply organization.

Qualifications
To perform any one of these jobs successfully, an individualmust be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily as it relates to theposition. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,skill, and/or ability required for each role.
Lead Counselor
Minimum age is 18. Must have one of the following:
-A minimum of 3 months (460 hours) satisfactory and verifiable experience working in licensed childcare programs.
-May require valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to satisfactorily complete provided training for driving 15-passenger vans may be required.
Counselor Aide
Minimum age is 16. Must have informal experience working and/or genuine interest in working with children.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - All positions
-Must pass City background check
-Must receive clearance from state and federal fingerprinting, and child abuse reporting background check.
-CPR and First Aid Certification (or similar introductory certificate) is required prior to working with children.
-Must complete 15 hours of required, provided pre-service trainings prior to working with children.
Language Skills
Communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, supervisors, andthe general public. Must be able to effectively give developmentallyappropriate, verbal guidance to children between the ages of 5-15 years.
Reasoning Ability
Must possess the ability to solve and implement practical solutions toproblems, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,oral, diagram, or schedule form, and to foresee and initiate proactive measuresto ensure program quality, customer service and participant safety.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must bemet by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee isregularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, kneel, jump, run,stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must have theability to lift from the ground up to 40 lbs. The employee must be capable ofleading children in extended periods of exercise and movement and be able toactively participate in scheduled activities alongside children in both anindoor and outdoor environment. 
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee mayoccasionally be exposed to various weather conditions including rain, snow,wind, hail, and heat. The employee may be exposed to allergy causing conditions(i.e., cottonwood, dust, animals, etc.). The employee may be exposed to avariety of childhood illnesses. The noise level in the work environment can beat high extremes at times.
The employee must be able to work effectively in anenvironment of noisy, happy, and sometimes distraught children. The employeemust possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of children inindoor and outdoor recreation settings and work effectively in high stresssituations. The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests ofchildren.
