Job Description Summary:

The Youth and Adult Program Manager is primarily responsible for developing, coordinating, scheduling, implementing, supervising and evaluating a variety of recreational programs, activities and special events for Youth and Adult Programs and services provided to blind, low vision, and multi-handicapped clients and their families. The Youth and Adult Program Manager also manages and guides employees and volunteers to ensure they meet performance expectations and organizational goals.


The Youth and Adult Program Manager must set a good example and consistently demonstrate the Light (LIGHT) Principles of Leadership, Integrity, Growth, Humility and Trust. It is important for individuals to be committed to a continuous learning environment and a champion for change, with a teamwork mentality,

To enable and empower people who are blind or low vision to realize their full potential.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and directs the implementation of goals, required trainings, objectives and performance standards for the department to ensure they meet the expectations of the organization and licensed programs.

  • Manages, directs, assess and lead employees to ensure competence in their job duties and their performance meets the job expectations.

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring and dispositioning applicants and to ensure recruiting and department objectives are met and the department remains fully staffed using talent acquisition tools and resources.

  • Responsible for performance reviews and feedback to staff and implementing plans of correction when needed.

  • Responsible for ensuring new hires or transfers are orientated and receive necessary training that meets the state licensing and organization requirements.

  • Follows all safety protocols and guidelines for promoting a safe work environment for clients.

  • Ensures federal compliance with federal state standards by providing requested activity reports or data.

  • Follows all safety protocols and guidelines for promoting a safe and healthy environment for the client and promotes safety awareness and accident prevention.

  • Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective.

  • Provides updates to Leadership Team on on-going activities and assessments for opportunities for improvement.

  • Creates programs and activities centered around the mission and organizational goals for enriching and expanding programs and services offered to the community.

  • Coordinate program activities for clients on-site and off-site and ensure they meet the customer and company satisfaction.

  • Provides updates to Leadership Team on on-going activities, program services and any assessments made for determining the effectiveness and efficiency of the program or for areas of improvement.

  • Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective.

  • Create and review programs to ensure they are safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, client centered and meets licensure requirements.

  • Develop and maintain an active volunteer program and recruit volunteers for activities and programs.

  • Provide a welcoming and inviting atmosphere to all clients and serves as a main contact for Adult and Youth activity services and programs.

  • Oversees program offerings and activities, recruit volunteers, and work with community partners on any donations for the Youth and Adult programs and services.

  • Enlist clients and volunteer support and input with program planning and activities to ascertain whether additional services or programs are needed.

  • Conduct weekly/monthly inventory to ensure materials are available for activities.

  • Set up community events for potential clients and companies for an introduction and overview of the Youth and Adult programs and activities.

  • This job requires working some evenings and weekends for special programs and events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Licensure and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services or another related field is required or Associate Degree in a field related to human services and two years of full-time work experience providing direct care services.

  • Relevant experience in education, social work, non-profit or a related field.

  • Relevant experience supervising activities.

  • Activity Director certification

  • Childcare Director certification

  • CPR and First Aid required

  • Annual TB test and screening

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to proficiently perform the job duties and functions, determined through ongoing skills and training, competency assessments and performance evaluations.

  • Applies good leadership skills by supervising and guiding staff to meet the customer and client expectations.

  • Ability to lead, guide and supervise staff to meet the customer and client expectations.

  • Ability to organize, document and implement detailed programs that are effective and efficient and can be used as a model for other activities.

  • Ability to maintain detailed records of activity programs and client participation while identifying progress toward established activity goals and expectations.

  • Good written and communication skills.

  • Must have flexibility and be able to work at different times as needed based on activities.

  • Familiarity with community and social services resources.

  • Good computer skills and able to adapt to different software.

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet customer deadlines.

  • Ability to work with confidential documents and sensitive materials.

  • Ability to prioritize and work at a high level of accuracy.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has supervisory responsibilities and manages the Youth and Adult Programs to ensure job expectations and organizational goals are met. This position also collaborates with the Leadership Team in sharing ideas and providing strategies in support of the organizational goals, mission and vision.
