Job Description
Tarleton State University invites applications from individuals with a passion for working with rural and/or underserved communities and the desire to advance the role of Occupational Therapy in traditional and emerging settings for an Assistant Professor Tenure-Track for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program. This is a 10.5-month appointment located on Tarleton's main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. Requires the ability to teach and/or work remotely at the University's discretion.
Tarleton State has applied for accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the Occupational Therapists administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professorof Occupational Therapy Program with a focus on Adult Rehabilitation will:
  • Develop a curriculum for the adult population following ACOTE guidelines and teach graduate students using transformative learning models
  • Maintain and monitor adult occupations lab space
  • Participate in curriculum design, program evaluation, accreditation responsibilities, and holistic application review
  • Serve as admissions coordinator for the new program, including facilitating outreach and awareness in the community
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary curriculum planning
  • Mentor doctoral-level graduate students in community settings and collaborate to create new, innovative opportunities within the rural community
  • Mentor doctoral-level graduate capstone projects
  • Demonstrate a commitment to building an accessible scholarly environment
  • 60% Teaching and Service: Develop, implement, and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. May be required to teach at other campuses or online. Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
  • 40% Research: Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship, or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Completed doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting body required (or equivalent)
  • Must have an active Texas state license (or be license eligible) as an Occupational Therapist and possess an initial NBCOT certification
  • Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience with adult populations

Preferred
  • Previous teaching experience for an ACOTE-accredited Occupational Therapy education program. However, Occupational Therapists new to academia are encouraged to apply. They will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with active and supportive mentoring and faculty development training.
  • Experience in rural care and/or underserved populations preferred
  • Record of scholarly activities/research line and maintenance of credentials
  • Evidence in responsiveness to current trends in Occupational Therapy practice and/or education and evidence of professional service at the local, state, and/or national level

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability in the discipline and showing clear promise of teaching excellence as evidenced in evaluation by peers, department head, and college dean. Documented yearly progress of professional achievement in teaching and service.
