Job description

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and health equity for youth ages 11–24. We do this work through a comprehensive approach that includes housing, mental health, medical, youth justice, education & employment, and community services. We take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to our work and center the needs of young people impacted by racism and other forms of oppression and marginalization. Founded in 1972, Face to Face serves more than 3,000 youth annually.


JOB SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for establishing trusting youth-adult relationships while providing supportive services to youth experiencing housing instability in our community. This role conducts outreach to youth at encampments, transit hubs, malls, and other places where youth experiencing homelessness are, connecting them to resources. The Street Outreach Worker is responsible for providing transportation to and warm hand offs for youth to Face to Face’s day shelter, SafeZone, and other community organizations serving youth. This role also provides youth with immediate resources like clothing, food, hygiene supplies, and transportation support. The position may also provide support onsite at SafeZone day shelter periodically as needed.

This position is 20 hours a week and requires availability on some evenings.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supportive Services

  • Successfully complete StreetWorks outreach worker training certification
  • Conduct street-based outreach to young people experiencing homelessness and sexual exploitation
  • Provide youth with transportation and support accessing SafeZone and other youth-serving agencies
  • Establish healthy and appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with youth
  • Support healthy adolescent development of youth
  • Provide basic needs, supportive services, information and referrals to youth experiencing homelessness, sexual exploitation and housing instability
  • Assist youth in accessing emergency shelter
  • Conduct individual assessments with youth to determine needs, including Coordinated Entry assessments
  • Attend all required training, orientations, and StreetWorks Outreach meetings
  • Collaborate with other staff from the StreetWorks Collaborative
  • Document youth outcomes in all appropriate databases
  • Complete StreetWorks paperwork
  • Collaborate with other staff and maintain team work style, and maintain professional working relationships with clients or other outside agencies or contacts
  • Provides all services guided by the evidence-based principles for helping youth overcome homelessness.

Drop-In Services

  • Conduct intakes and CEYS assessments for youth coming into the day shelter
  • Provide excellent customer service while greeting and checking youth into the center
  • Engage with youth at the center in a meaningful and respectful manner assisting them with various resources offered at the center or in the community
  • Respond to crisis situations in the space and de-escalate in a calm and professional manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of B.A. degree in social services, extensive experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth experiencing homelessness or facing other barriers
  • Experience with a positive youth and child development and harm reduction approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High reliability and integrity
  • High degree of problem-solving skill
  • Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs
  • Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and involving others when necessary
  • Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability to travel in all weather conditions in MN
  • Face to Face is subject to the government mandate requiring employee COVID vaccination. All employees will be required to get vaccinated.

PAY & BENEFITS:

The pay rate for this position is between $21 - $22 an hour, based on qualifications. Face to Face offers part-time employees benefits which include short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, 403b account as well as PTO and paid holidays.
