Yba Site Coordinator (Part-Time)

Summary:

The Site Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing weekly logistics and acting as lead coach for spring community-based participation program, YBA PLAY, which supports the development of leadership, character, and teamwork in Washington DC Scholar Athletes. The Site Coordinator is responsible for tracking daily attendance, administering pre and post-season surveys, fitness tests, and leading occasional one-one-one coaching sessions designed to develop assistant coaches as baseball instructors, youth development specialists, and community leaders. The Site Coordinator will lead programming at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy and Ferebee Hope Rec Center.

Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy Site Coordinators commit to supporting the youth baseball and character development initiatives of the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. The Academy’s summer instructional league will immerse underserved youth in The Academy Way – a positive culture of teamwork, effort, continual learning, and a love of baseball.

Spring Programming Schedule:

• Programming: March 18 – May 22
• Typical Programming Hours: Monday & Wednesday 5-8pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Take a lead role in implementing baseball/softball instruction and lead team time.
• Transport all equipment to and from the Nats Academy
• Maintain supplies for baseball/softball-and other physical activities.
• Manage all volunteer coaches at their site.
• Lead measurement and evaluation efforts at each site.
• Ensure character development curriculum is being followed and administered.
• Implement tailored baseball instruction to young Scholar-Athletes.
• Help Scholar Athletes develop baseball skills learned on the diamond into life lessons that can help them succeed in the classroom and their community.
• Ensure implementation of evaluation and surveys.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in coaching youth sports
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant youth development experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to be prepared and organized for every event day
• Knowledge of baseball/softball rules
• Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the Academy for scholar-athletes, staff, and the community at-large
• Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
• Embody the qualities of a strong role model for the Academy’s Scholar Athletes

The Site Coordinator will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. Job requires the Site Coordinator to function in a high activity sports venue. While performing the duties of this job, the Site Coordinator is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, run, jump, and climb up/down stairs.
