Job description

Summary

The Workforce Development Project Director is a key role in helping NYPA progress our expanded authority, researching and exploring opportunities for advancing the initiative in the area of Workforce Development.
 

This role organizes project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, developing project schedules, and determines resource requirements. Monitors and reports on the status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing. Ensures adherence to internal and external quality standards. Manages across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project lifecycle. Effectively schedule and oversee large multi-discipline projects.
  • Drive milestone completion, organize and prioritize critical issues and required information for Leadership to facilitate efficient decision making
  • Understand business goals and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives and productivity
  • Interface with key personnel in business units and identify and elevate issues that need resolution
  • Support the management of the administrative and personnel-related functions for the department
  • May direct the day-to-day assignments of contingent/contract workers or serve as a team lead

  • Experience with rapid and complex changing work environment
  • Resourceful; with ability to take initiative, demonstrate strong sense of ownership over tasks, and work independently and creatively in a fast paced environment
  • Organization and the ability to establish and move forward in the execution of high-priority, cross-functional initiatives through coordinated project plans
  • Strategic, diligent and analytical thinker, with superior problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills in order to manage multiple competing priorities, simultaneously
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability leverage relationships and work effectively across all levels of the business with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sharing ideas and information across diverse audiences and creating compelling presentations
  • Exceptional presentation (including PowerPoint or equivalent presentation software) and computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Experience with executive management and board-level presentations and decision-making processes, preferred
  • Ability to observe confidentiality
  • Open minded to experiment with new ways of working and business models
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, creative problem solving, and an ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment
  • Strategic thinking - stepping back from the day-to-day to see the bigger picture

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Graduate degree in a business-related field is preferred
  • Certification in a Project Management discipline, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of professional level experience
  • Minimum 5 years combination of supervisory, project management, and project implementation, or similar experience
  • Utility or Energy industry experience preferred
  • NYPA experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Up to 25% travel, primarily within NY State
  • May attend a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars during and outside of normal business hours
  • Ability to visit customer sites and NYPA facilities

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is: $123,500-$170,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
