LCRA is seeking a Wireless Core Engineer to join our Team. As part of the Telecommunications Team, you will contribute to the maintenance and expansion of the LCRA digital radio and LTE/5G systems. Our ideal candidate will use their knowledge and expertise to lead maintenance and growth initiatives with LCRA's Harris digital trunked radio systems and serve as a subject matter expert for Nokia and/or Ericsson LTE/5G radio systems Core architecture. Your expertise will have a key role in supporting and deploying new Telecommunication services to new and existing customers. You will be trusted to:
- Establish and troubleshoot IP connectivity in a private LTE/5G packet core as well as the Harris digital radio system.
- Serve as the Packet Core SME to assist team members in troubleshooting, working with vendors, detailing best practices, and configuring network tools.
- Test and implement configurations on routers, switches, and Firewalls in multi-vendor environment. Including Cisco, Nokia, Harris, Juniper, Ericsson etc.
- Deploy configurations within the LMR/ LTE/5G core application environment using application virtualization technologies such as VMware.
- Configure and test remote site/access layer devices for deployment to field.
- Assist Field engineers in troubleshooting connectivity or service-related issues at the Radio Access layer.
- Proactively monitor, analyze, and review multi-platform computing environment and execute problem avoidance practices to maintain the highest level of reliability and availability.
- Solve sophisticated network issues, identifying issues with hardware, operating system, application, and capacity.
- Act as the owner of a problem through resolution. Analyze issues and take actions to resolve problems (including Root Cause Analysis and Problem Remediation).
- Research, Analyze, and implement vendor approved software patches that address vulnerabilities and known bugs.
- Maintain strong Cyber Security awareness and adherence of Cyber security policies and best practices.
- Provide senior level analysis in developing and evaluating network architecture/requirements to support current and new customers and services.
- Interpret complex network drawings, prints and configurations and maintains changes to core network design drawings.
- Draft, update, and follow detailed work instructions relating to telecommunication network maintenance.
- Document changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record keeping practices, both verbal and written, with other team members and supervisors.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May direct work and schedules of other staff members.
You qualify with:
- Nine or more years of relevant experience, including experience in the design, maintenance or support of wireless LMR/ LTE communications systems. A bachelor’s, associate degree in related field, or an industry professional level certification may be substituted for certain years of experience.
- Driver’s License
You are a great fit with:
- Knowledge about LTE/5G technology, architecture and 3GPP standards.
- Experience with Ericsson, Harris, Nokia Wireless or other LMR/ LTE/5G packet core technology is required.
- Industry standard Certifications in wireless/route/switching are preferred. (CWNA, CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA etc.)
- Leadership skills in assisting other team members.
- Leadership abilities in providing input in supporting architectural design decisions.
- Strong communication skills especially working with multiple teams.
- Experience in managing multiple projects and changing priorities.
