Supplemental Information
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all WILDLIFE AND aquatic life.
LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Fisheries exists to ensure that aquatic resources are sustainable for present and future generations of Louisiana citizens by providing access and scientific management.
This technical position functions to support and perform freshwater fish sampling, monitoring of freshwater aquatic habitat and limited aquatic plant control duties across a large geographical region of northeast Louisiana.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducts day to day fish culture and grounds maintenance activities including fish care, fish feeding, fish handling, fish production, estimating numbers of fish, sampling fish, fish transport, fish stocking; pond care, pond preparation and fertilizing, water quality monitoring, and pond harvesting
- Applies common sense and general knowledge of the mechanical operations of the hatchery to respond to break-downs, power outages, and frequently changing biochemical situations associated with aquaculture
- Operates boats, motor vehicles, computers and sampling equipment
- Maintains and calibrates equipment
- Maintains hatchery grounds
- May participate in various aquatic plant control programs. Includes obtaining appropriate certifications for applying EPA approved herbicides and working with biological controls
- Operates and maintains boats, winches, trailers, nets, scientific equipment, navigational equipment, tractors, lawnmowers, motor vehicles, and power tools
- Performs general maintenance of buildings and grounds
- Assists in major facility renovations, including general carpentry

Operates high-pressure spray pumps, outboard motors, air boats, mud boats, vehicles, tractors, and other Department equipment.
