Wetland Scientist

Cypress Environmental Consulting is currently seeking a Wetland Scientist to join our team. This role will involve wetland and waters of the U.S. delineation, functional and conditional assessments, vegetation surveys, preparation of environmental documentation, and regulatory permitting. Site assessments require travel up to 50% for field work and a strong scientific writing component. The position will split its time between field work and the office. Field work is primarily located in Texas, and overnight travel is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The applicant must possess a strong desire to learn, have excellent communication skills, and be able to contribute effectively as a team member. Candidates must have completed a USACE Wetland Delineation Training Course and have experience with plant identification, GPS data collection, GIS mapping, and wetland jurisdictional determinations. In addition, familiarity with USACE permitting and environmental regulations pertaining to a variety of development and natural resource projects is beneficial.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor of Science degree in ecology, rangeland science, botany, biology, wildlife, environmental science or similar field.

· 5 years minimum professional wetland experience.

· Strong communication skills; strong technical writing and verbal communication abilities.

· Experience with environmental investigations, data analysis and reporting.

· Highly proficient utilizing GPS equipment.

· Completion of a 40-hour wetland delineation training course.

· Proficiency in plant identification and conducting field work.

· Regulatory permitting experience (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, State Stormwater Programs) is preferred.

· Compile and produce sound and well-organized technical documents using a variety of computer software.

· Experience with Windows-based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) is required.

· Proficiency with ArcGIS is required.

· This position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to mobilize to project locations and perform work during all weather conditions.

· Abide by the project schedule, coordinating travel plans, vehicle and equipment needs, and multi-party collaboration in a timely and efficient manner.

· Observe and abide by policies and procedures outlined in project-specific health and safety plans and company Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.

· Valid driver license and clean driving record.

· May be required to obtain health & safety certifications, industry-approved trainings, or project-specific certifications.

· Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
