Western New England University is a picturesque private New England university located in the 16-Acres section of Springfield, Massachusetts. We are currently looking for a qualified individual to serve as a University Police Officer.
The Western New England University Police Department is an accredited police department comprised of (18) certified full-time sworn Police Officers, (6) civilian Community Service Officers, (3) civilian Dispatchers, and (12) civilian Security Staff Assistants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Have a Massachusetts Police Training Committee Certified Police academy or a waiver of equivalency for out of state candidates. See M.P.T.C. website https://www.mass.gov/how-to/request-an-exemption-or-temporary-waiver
- Be a U.S. citizen, have a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 21 years of age
- Candidates will be expected to pass an extensive background check, psychological & physical exams and have an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain certification in basic first aid and CPR.
- Must be able to pass background investigation, psychological examination.
- Must possess the ability to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms – Class A Large Capacity permit in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140, Section 131.
Preference will be given to those candidates with prior policing experience. Candidates will obtain Special State Police authority in accordance with requirements set forth by the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission and the Massachusetts State Police. (MGL Ch. 22C Sec. 63)
