PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Sign On Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $3,500 bonus; with $1,750 paid on the first payroll, and $1,750 paid upon successful completion of the 6 month introductory period.

Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring rate for this position is $36.98/hourly
OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
Performs treatment plant operational duties in the maintenance and operation of a high performing Water Treatment facility under the supervision of a Water Treatment Operator A. Aurora’s Water Treatment programs are recognized as leaders in the industry and all three water purification facilities have achieved the highest recognition by the Partnership for Safe Water as “Excellence in Water Treatment”.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures treated water quality meets or surpasses all State, Federal, and Water Department standards.
  • Monitors raw and treated water flows, adjust flows and pumping rates as needed.
  • Conducts quality tests on raw and treated water.
  • May develop, monitor, and implement a process control plan for plant operation using manual and computerized systems.
  • Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, reports, and performs maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
  • Maintain plant facility, grounds, and security.
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports of plant performance and responds to questions, problems, and complaints concerning water quality or service.
  • Ensures cleanliness of assigned areas and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
  • At least (3) years progressively responsible experience working in a Water Treatment facility installing, maintaining, and operating equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in water technology or water quality management preferred
Knowledge:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices and requirements of a Water treatment facility
  • Knowledge of chemistry, biology, mathematics, and hydrology
  • Knowledge of pumps, valves, motors, filters, backflow prevention devices, piping, and plumbing structures
  • Knowledge of chemical analysis and testing techniques
  • Personal computers including spreadsheet and word processing software applications
Skills:
  • Skill in the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness
Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Perform chemical, physical, and biological control analyses
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Work without close supervision
  • Work shifts and nights; and work overtime, standby, and/or callback duty.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment required for the job and able to meet requirements under the Aurora Water Respiratory Protection Program.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Colorado Water Treatment Plant Operators Class B
  • Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record
Essential Personnel:
  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance at a time
  • Continuous regular walking and standing to monitor control room and treatment plant operations
  • Continuous pushing, pulling, and climbing to check system equipment; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard and treatment plant controls
  • Foot/eye coordination for operation of a motor vehicle
  • Clear vision to read and interpret written reports and control room gauges
  • Speech communications for communication with employees and citizens
  • Hearing and listening for instructions and warning signals
Work Environment:
  • Continuous work primarily indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.
  • Frequent work may be performed in confined spaces; will be exposed to low and medium electrical voltage.
Equipment Used:
  • Operates equipment and vehicles common to utilities maintenance functions.
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
