Water Plant Operator

Water Management Services, Inc., a privately owned utility company, is the exclusive provider of all water service for St. George Island, Florida, located 5 miles into the Gulf of Mexico near Apalachicola. The successful applicant will work with the operators and supervise the field technicians to provide safe and consistent water service to over 2,300 service locations. After gaining experience and successfully providing excellent service to the residents of St. George Island and Water Management Services, Inc., the Water Plant Operator hired for this job will succeed upon excellent performance and become the chief Water Plant Operator for the island upon the retirement of the current lead operator.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a Class A, B or C Drinking Water License from the FDEP and a valid Florida Driver License with an insurable driving record. The company does not deal with wastewater. The applicant must pass an extensive background investigation and a current drug test.

Essential Job Duties

Responsible for performing a variety of skilled assignments necessary to the operation of the water treatment plant and auxiliary facilities under the supervision of the lead operator. Some of the duties may include, but not limited to the following:

· Make minor and major repairs to mechanical equipment, report major breakdowns.

· Supervise field technicians.

· Perform preventative maintenance.

· Conduct plant inspections.

· Record reading on the chlorine residual, record pounds of chlorine, and ensure the

chlorine room is sufficiently stocked and maintained.

· Make necessary adjustments to the chlorination equipment and other operating

equipment.

· Collect water samples for bacteriological and chemical analysis.

· Follow up on customer complaints.

· Attend seminars to keep updated on changes in EPA/DER rules.

· Test for low chlorine residual, chlorine leaks, and immediately respond to all alarms.

· Maintenance of plant to include, but not limited to cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on the applicant’s experience and qualifications, within the salary range set forth above.

· Emergency call-out work, at nights and on weekends, will be compensated at a one and

a half overtime rate.
