Job Summary
The Seasonal Irrigation Maintenance Aide 2 will work as a member of the Natural Resource Division Street Tree Program/Water Conservation Program. The position will work closely with and will report to the Water Conservation Technical Specialist. The primary workload involves irrigation system repairs and Irrigation Maintenance, site renovation, assisting in new or temporary irrigation installations, irrigation system seasonal start up, regular site monitoring. Secondary workload will include GIS data collection, irrigation scheduling, and controller programming.
This position will perform a variety of manual labor tasks, assisting fully trained personnel to repair, maintain, operate, and install irrigation systems in the City of Bellevue Right-of-Way/Parks. Work consists of routine and repetitive tasks, processes, and/or operations, to be completed in a manner that assures individual, co-worker, and public safety in all weather and working conditions. The city will provide a vehicle and the necessaryMaintenance Aide 2 - Seasonal tools to perform all assigned essential duties.
Irrigation Technician positions require prior experience in a related field(s). Employees will receive direct supervision while on the job site in most cases or the employee will be required to work independently based on clear instructions.
Hours are typically Monday-Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm.
Season Start Date: March 18th, 2024, employment is six months or less

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Performance of irrigation system inspections, program adjustments and irrigation repairs. Ability to assist in technical repairs with a Technical Specialist. Occasionally monitoring progress and inspection of repairs by contract services.
  • Irrigation system evaluation, troubleshooting, documentation, and site water management with battery op & stand-alone controllers
  • GIS data entry and updates of irrigation water meters and backflow assemblies in Field Maps GIS
  • Operating and editing of Field Maps GIS Collector App
  • Assist with hand watering as needed, and the consistent monitoring of battery-operated controllers or stand-alone controllers.
  • Installations of temporary irrigation systems or additions to current irrigation when instructed.
  • Operation of a city vehicle, work safely with landscape tools and equipment in the Right-of-Way / heavy traffic environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent required.
  • One year minimum experience in landscape irrigation system installation, Irrigation Maintenance, and/or routine repairs.
  • Experience with GIS data entry points and monitoring of assets experience is a bonus but not necessary.
  • Experience using landscape tools and basic knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Must have a valid Washington driver's license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record according to City standards. Proof of driving record required at time of interview. Applicants will be disqualified under the following circumstances:
    • ** Violation - more than two moving violations in the preceding three years; or a serious driving violation within the preceding three years (includes but not limited to: reckless or negligent driving, DUI, or driving without a valid license)
    • ** Accidents - more than one motor vehicle accident within the preceding three years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of "guilty" or "nolo contendere".
  • Ability to learn to operate safely the equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Right-of-Way experience is preferred.
  • Ability to listen and understand direction/instruction, effectively communicates with team members, and responds to customers tactfully and courteously.
  • Basic computer skills using Word, Excel, and preferred familiarity w/Field Maps
  • Criminal History check required on all applicants.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • One-year experience in landscape maintenance or landscape irrigation repairs.
    • Central Control experience or familiarity of central control software concepts.
    • GIS data entry level experience and asset management preferred but not necessary.
    • Experience in landscape installation/maintenance, tree, and plant identification desirable but not required.
    • Good written and oral communication skills desirable

    • The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud and will be provided hearing protection.
    • Exposure may include working in a fast-paced construction environment, traffic, fumes, chemicals, flying debris, noise, with potential heavy exposure to dust.
    • Employees must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions and provide own weather-related gear, such as rain gear or warm clothing. Employees must provide and wear work clothing (tee shirts w/City logo provided) and boots (steel-toed recommended, but not required) appropriate to their duties. Some tasks may require a long-sleeved shirt.

    This is a Seasonal, Teamsters non-exempt union position.
    Definition of a Seasonal Employee:
    • Must be pre-approved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation.
    • Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less.
    • "Customary" means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year.
    • NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
