BASIC PURPOSE
Under immediate or general supervision, individual learns to perform a variety of maintenance and recreational duties at the Regional Athletic Complex (RAC) and/or Rainier Vista. This position will work in the field in all weather conditions.
This is a year round part-time position that will work up to 18 hours a week on a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Assists with the opening and closing of athletic fields throughout the year for tournaments and league play.
  • Performs daily recreation event support.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance duties at the Regional Athletic Complex (RAC) or Rainier Vista.
  • Performs janitorial duties, which includes restroom cleaning.
  • Uses lawn mowers and hand tools.
  • Various landscaping tasks, including mowing and weeding.
  • Provides customer service to RAC or Rainier Vista visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S):
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have basic knowledge of customer service, event management, and facility oversight.
  • Must be flexible, reliable, responsible, and enjoy working with the general public.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City's insurance carrier.
  • Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of customer service, event management, and facility oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to work rules and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment:
  • Typical assignments are out-of-doors normally requiring work in inclement weather at cold, hot, dirty, wet, noisy, or cramped work sites.
  • The work involves physical labor, physical dexterity, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Duties may require exposure to chemicals, toxic gases, raw sewage, or other environmental hazards.
Physical Abilities:
  • Hearing, speaking, or otherwise communicating to exchange information in person or on the phone.
  • Perform physical labor associated with the essential duties of the position.
  • Work in the field in all weather conditions and over rough terrain.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to thirty (30) lbs. Some assistance is available to mitigate the heaviest lifting.
  • Bending, kneeling/crouching, reaching, climbing and crawling.
  • Operating equipment; electric, gas, and various hand tools.
  • Grasp and hold and effectively use assigned personal protective equipment and tools for the position.

Temporary/seasonal positions are not eligible for health insurance, other insurances, holidays, vacation, and/or other paid leave benefits provided to regular full-time positions; however, they are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. The City will comply with RCW 49.46.210 and WAC's 296-128-600 through 296-128-700 in providing paid sick leave to all covered employees (non-exempt).
Social Security and Federal withholding taxes will be deducted from wages.
Temporary/seasonal positions are eligible for membership and will participate in the Department of Retirement Systems.
*Please note, that Part-time and On-call positions are not eligible for membership in the Department of Retirement Systems.
