Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a permanent Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 3. This position is located at McNeil Island Stewardship in Steilacoom, WA.

Correctional Industries (CI) is committed to maintaining and expanding incarcerated worker training programs, which develop marketable skills, instill, and promote positive work ethics, and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position is responsible for the safe operations of a 24/7 marine passenger vessel and scheduled activities. It ensures the operation is in adherence to schedules, and safeguards/enforces compliance with all applicable U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Transportation Security Administration, Department of Ecology regulations, as well as applicable RCWs, WACs, directives, regulatory compliances rules and Department of Correction policies

Duties
- Operates the Wastewater Treatment plant at McNeil Island concurrent to regulations and policy set by the Department of Ecology (DOE), Department of Health (DOH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Corrections.
- Ensures proper operation of the MIS well and samples well water as described by DOH guidelines; maintain adequate quantity and quality of potable water to staff and residents of McNeil Island.
- Ensures sufficient quantities of water available for fire protection.
- Instruct, train and supervise incarcerated workers in the maintenance of wastewater equipment and the related physical plant.
- Inspects wastewater plant and recommends or performs required maintenance.
- Perform chemical tests and microscopic examination as require by Washington Department of Health.
- Analyze and correlate test results and make adjustments to operations accordingly.
- Maintain logs and charts, prepare reports as needed.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of fire protection systems, including fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, and other associated equipment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Must have a Group 3 Wastewater Certification issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology.
- Must currently hold a Water Distribution Manager 1 Certification from the Washington State Department of Health, or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
- Must successfully complete Correctional Worker Core (CWC) training program for interaction with offenders.
- Valid drivers license.
- High School Diploma.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to perform chemical tests, analyzes results, and makes appropriate adjustment to the water treatment system.
- Computer skills with experience in Word, and Excel.
- Backflow assembly test certification.
- WDM2 or higher certification from WA DOH.
- Cross connection specialist certification.
