Position Information
Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Warehouse Technician I to join the Water Pollution Control warehouse operations team. This position will be part of a team responsible for maintaining manual and automated inventory systems in the warehouse as materials are ordered, received, and dispensed. The technician will also ensure the safe and efficient storage of materials, as well as maintain warehouse item inventory.
Specific duties include:
- Researching and responding to inquiries related to warehouse inventory levels;
- Producing and analyzing usage reports to identify items that need ordered, discarded, or auctioned;
- Downloading warehouse inventory data reports to assist in monitoring the bureau's budget;
- Developing written materials for inclusion in the inventory system using Microsoft Word, Excel and/or a digital inventory supply system;
- Researching availability of materials, parts, and equipment by using supply manuals, catalogs, the Internet, and vendor contracts;
- Tracking purchasing requests for promptness and accuracy;
- Coordinating receipt, storage and customer notification of materials and equipment delivered to the warehouse;
- Assisting with the loading and unloading of warehouse supplies with forklift; and
- Reviewing financial documents and packing slips for accuracy regarding warehouse invoices.
Selection Criteria
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; plus
- Some experience related to warehouse operations: including receiving, storing, issuing, and buying supplies/tools, materials, parts and equipment and maintaining the associated records systems.
Desirable qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Purchasing or warehouse management experience in an industrial environment, such as a water/sewer treatment facility;
- Performing duties related to an industrial materials specialist or buyer, including contacting vendors for availability of materials, evaluating potential material options, and negotiating prices;
- Operating a forklift in a warehouse environment and/or possession of forklift certificate;
- Using digital inventory supply systems (e.g., CMMS, MP2); and/or
- Using automated financial systems.
Special Requirements
Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
This position requires operating a forklift to move heavy parts. Applicant must possess or be willing to obtain a forklift operator certification.
Additional Information
Work hours: 6:00a.m. to 2:30p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition to normal work hours, this position may require being scheduled on a rotating basis for stand-by duties and on a regular basis for call-back in emergency situations.
