Organization: Food for Others is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping Northern Virginia residents meet their basic need for food. We provide free, emergency food from our pantry, neighborhood, and mobile sites directly to clients; we supply other community organizations from our warehouse; and we supply thousands of weekend food packs for school children weekly during the school year. Food for Others is a mission-focused organization where the applicant can expect to become involved in all aspects of the food bank/food pantry operation.
Summary statement of position: Under supervision of the Director of Operations and Client Services directs the daily functioning of the Food for Others warehouse.
Primary responsibilities:
1) Manages, plans, organizes, and monitors the safe receipt and storage of donated or purchased goods.
a) Responsibilities for staff
· Supervise warehouse workers and drivers, including timesheets, schedules and other administrative aspects of supervision.
· Work alongside to orient and train new warehouse workers and drivers.
· Coordinate with Volunteer Services staff and fill in as necessary to cover drivers’ vacations, illnesses, and special requirements such as food drives.
b) Responsibilities for volunteers
· Assign specific tasks to and train warehouse volunteers.
· Work with the Volunteer Services staff to ensure productive use can be made of volunteers’ time, including Court appointed volunteers.
c) Responsibilities for daily productivity of the main warehouse
· Plan daily preparation of food to be distributed to Community Partners, Mobile Sites, Neighborhood Sites, Purchase Partners, and Door Dash.
· Responsible for directing food to My Market and collaborating with the Market Coordinator to ensure the market receives the supplies necessary to adequately function.
· Manage food rescue schedule, coordinating drivers and trucks with donor stores.
· Ensure all food sorting procedures are followed and foods are directed to the correct programs including P3 foods.
· Responsible for inventory control and loss prevention. This includes special programs such as P3 and Purchase Partners.
· Responsible for food safety. Ensure all food is rotated, inspected and discarded if it shows signs of aging or spoilage.
· Perform bi-weekly physical inventory and prepare reports for all food programs. Submit daily Partner Direct Report to Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB).
· Ensure the warehouse is clean and in compliance with fire code and various regulatory requirements (USDA, VADACS, etc.), ready for inspection or tours. This includes the exterior areas – parking lot, trash, recycling, and compost bins.
· Prepare warehouse for special events, food drives, and the busy season – schools, Boy Scouts, US Postal Employees food drive, etc.
2) Manages on-site preventive maintenance and documentation of box trucks and other major equipment including forklifts, electric and manual pallet jacks, refrigerators, freezers, and water coolers. Schedule maintenance and rentals when needed.
3) Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
1. High School diploma or the equivalent
2. Valid driver’s license, clean driving report, and minimum two years of experience with box trucks
3. Minimum six years of warehouse management or supervisory experience
4. Thorough knowledge of warehouse practices and procedures. Ability to use warehouse equipment such as scales, kiosk, electric pallet jack, forklift, etc.
5. High level of customer service. Ability to work well with people including staff, volunteers, donors, and clients.
6. Ability to lift at least 75 pounds and stand for long periods of time
7.Forklift operator’s certificate
8. Excellent communication skills
9. Computer literacy, specifically Microsoft suite: (Outlook, Word, Excel)
10. ServSafe food handler’s certificate or willingness to obtain certification
Status:
On-site Full time – 9:30 to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
