AURA has an immediate opening for a remote, full-time,VP/EVP Business DevelopmentNaval Systems position focused on surface and sub-surface (NAVSEA) systems as it relates to AURA’s AI/ML portfolio. A basic understanding and willingness to learn the details of artificial intelligence / machine learning concepts is required, an expert level of understanding of AI is not required. A core skill that is critical is the ability to determine, working with AURA’s AI Team, how AI/ML can be applied to and improve ocean vessel (surface and subsurface) work flows in any variety of solution spaces. For example, AI/ML can be applied in manufacturing, supply chain management – and once at sea or in operation - ongoing maintenance and sustainment, logistics workflows, intelligent autonomous operations, energy management, system and component fault tolerance, and human-assisted tactical operations. AURA is performing research in these and more.


A VP/EVP Business DevelopmentNaval Systems must have detailed working knowledge of these sea-based environments and the insight to identify where and how AI can be applied. The VP/EVP must be able to engage US Navy customers proactively, present solutions to their challenges effectively, and, with significant independence close on business that results in funded contracts for AURA that ultimately yield significant benefit for the US Navy.


The ideal candidate has former military or government civil service experience at a O6/GS-15 level. And since that time has a clearly demonstrated, proven and successful Business Development track record while working for a large defense prime contractor and is now looking for the efficiency and freedom of working in a high-performing small company – with the potentially significant monetary benefits that accompany rapid growth in a small business.


This position can be performed remotely but would prefer someone located near a key NAVSEA customer location for easy access. The title of Vice President versus Executive Vice President will depend on the successful candidate’s seniority and background and experience.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful VP/EVP Business DevelopmentNaval Systems candidate will be tasked with developing new business within the Navy in NAVSEA.  Job duties may include:
  • Acquiring and maintaining new customers and business in the Navy - primarily in the NAVSEA domain but also all other fields where AI/ML can be applied as opportunities arise.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key customer personnel.
  • Creating and implementing business acquisition action plans.
  • Creating and implementing sales and Business Development strategies.
  • Serving as lead in crafting winning proposals for projects being pursued in conjunction with AURA technical staff – and the ability to write proposal sections to ensure accurate descriptions of NAVSEA operations.


Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability in business-to-business (B2B) sales.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills and experience.
  • Working within a demanding team environment, the VP/EVP Business DevelopmentNaval Systems will work with engineering, operations, and other Sr. Leadership to improve AURA brand recognition and help boost AURA technical and financial growth in the US Navy by leveraging our core capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to create and implement action plans and sales strategies that will help us reach our growth initiatives — including new customer acquisition and client optimization.


WORK EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Minimum Education:

  • The candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management, industrial technology, or a related discipline. 


Work Experience:

  • Fifteen-plus (15+) years’ experience in US Navy ocean systems (NAVSEA surface / subsurface) environment with ideally 5+ of those years in direct customer-facing work, such as Business Development. Extensive, trusted connections at a high enough seniority level within NAVSEA that can be applied to rapid Business Development is highly desired.


Minimum Technical Requirements:

  • Deep familiarity with US Navy procurement and operations.
  • Deep familiarity with Navy command and program structures.
  • Familiarity with the US Navy industrial base; including suppliers, prime contractors, hardware, software, logistics, and supply-chain management.


OTHER:

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
  • Problem-solving and negotiation skills to implement mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for meetings with prospective and existing clients.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent professional references.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • US citizenship status is required for this position due to AURA’s contractual obligations to the US Department of Defense (DoD) requiring all employees working in performance of DoD contracts to be US citizens.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior DoD or military experience
  • A current Secret Clearance or above is highly desirable.
