FTE: Full-time/Non-Exempt/Hourly
SALARY: $21.00/hr. - $23.00/hr.

The Sexual Violence Center (SVC) is a dedicated rape crisis center serving Carver, Hennepin, and Scott counties. We support people who have experienced sexual violence through our 24-hour telephone crisis line, individual counseling, support groups, hospital, and legal advocacy. All these services are provided at no cost to the individual.

The Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality support services, and fostering a culture of empathy and empowerment within our volunteer community. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by contributing to the healing and empowerment of survivors while actively participating in the mission to create a safer and more supportive community.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Organize the Sexual Violence Center’s Volunteer Program (50%):
· Develop and implement a volunteer advocate recruitment strategy, including community outreach.
· Organize the agency’s internship program, including intern recruitment, management of the interns, and coordination with schools to ensure compliance with practicum requirements, collaboration with SVC staff to ensure interns are supported, trained, and supervised at the highest standard.
· Support SVC’s volunteer and intern advocates in their direct service work by regularly meeting with them and providing them with constructive feedback.
· Develop and coordinate SVC’s regular in-house advocacy training program including:
o Confirm that SVC’s training program is in continual compliance with statutory requirements.
o Updating advocate resources, including orientation manual.
o Along with other SVC staff members, facilitate training topics and coordinate with outside partners for presenters where appropriate.
o Coordination of each volunteer training series including securing training venue, obtaining food donations, and the printing of materials.
· Develop and coordinate continuing education opportunities for SVC advocates through in-service training sessions.
· Create and communicate expectations of advocates, including (in coordination with Associate Director) the monthly scheduling of advocates’ office and on-call shifts.
· Coordinate individualized communications with volunteer advocates through the most effective channels (including Basecamp, e-mail and/or phone).
· Create a culture of volunteer/intern accountability and retention, through specific guidelines and policy development in collaboration with the Management team.
· Support SVC’s team approach to advocate supervision by collaborating with other staff, where appropriate, to address advocates’ challenges.
· Initiate and coordinate volunteer recognition events.
· Represent SVC in public at conferences and conventions, with partner agencies and in the community.
Participate in the delivery of SVC’s direct services (50%):
· Support the SVC Crisis Unit in the Minneapolis office as the main entry point for SVC service delivery in all three counties; requires two shifts per week including at least one evening shift.
· Participate in SVC’s direct service support for victims and survivors including, but not limited to, crisis line, medical advocacy in hospitals, individual counseling, support groups, and legal advocacy. Maintain a caseload of 3-5 victim/survivors.
· Participate in Medical Advocacy on-call rotation.
· Along with other staff, provide support and guidance to agency’s volunteer advocates.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Experience and Characteristics:
· Have a working knowledge of strategies and methods of support for victims/survivors of sexual violence.
· Must be able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and marginalized communities.
· A strong commitment to social justice and dismantling of all forms of oppression.
· Flexible and adaptable to a fluid work environment.
· Team-oriented person who will foster a positive working environment.
· Prior experience with drafting documents, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
· Experience developing and leading training sessions related to counseling, anti-oppression work, trauma, self-care, advocacy, and related topics
Preferred Skills, Experience and Characteristics:
· Candidates for this role who are bilingual in English and one of the prevalent languages in our service delivery area (i.e. Spanish, Somali, Hmong) will be given priority in any recruitment process.
