Job description

Organization Summary: As a trusted resource for families, the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery partners with parents to promote strong, healthy families by offering free, voluntary services for parents who face barriers such as unemployment, homelessness, medical or mental health concerns, poverty, domestic violence, or other difficult situations. We help strengthen families by connecting them to resources, caring for their children during difficult times, and setting goals that promote self-sufficiency and make the relationship between the parent and child stronger.

Position Overview: At the direction of the Nutritional Services, the Nutrition & Volunteer Services Coordinator prepares and serves meals and snacks to children (ages 0-6), volunteers, and designated staff using pre-planned menus and recipes, while ensuring federal, state, and local compliance standards are met. This position is also responsible for providing direction and guidance to CFK participants and acts as a volunteer ambassador for potential CFK volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

Nutritional Services

· Conduct inventory of all food items prior to serving.

· Check to ensure that food is stored appropriately, within federal, state, and local guidelines.

· Review menu, serving and portion sizes, as well as dietary restrictions to ensure that there is sufficient coverage of meals and snacks.

· Communicates proactively and work proactively with Children’s Services staff to ensure appropriate meals and servings are provided based on numbers and ages of children.

· Conduct temperature checks to ensure that food safety gudelines are met prior to serving.

· Complete documentation log in compliance with food program regulations.

· Along with Nutrition Services and maintenance team, assure constant cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen, dining room, and equipment.

Volunteer Services

· Provide orientation, support, and oversight to CFK volunteers ensuring that food safety policies and procedures are followed and prepared meals and snacks meet the Child and Adult Care Food Program’s (CACFP) meal pattern, food component, and quantity requirements.

· Conduct building tours (as requested) to familiarize new volunteers with our organization's mission and services.

· Willingness to work in an environment with a commitment to on-going education, and openness to new ideas.

Qualifications

Education:

· High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:

· Quantity food preparation experience in a licensed facility preferred, or equivalent cooking experience.

· Knowledge of basic principles of Human Nutrition and Child Development, preferred/

Certification:

· Must currently possess or able to obtain ServSafe Food Handler certification within 60 days of start date.


Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

· Must be able to bend and lift up to 40 pounds.
