Form of workThe permanent/full-time Vocational Instructor (Printing/Graphic Arts) will be directed by the Program Assistant in the Recovery Mall Services department at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
• Provide instruction and training to patients in skills and behaviors required of the printing trade or closely related occupation.
• Maintain control and discipline in the classroom or shop controlling all materials and equipment which may be used as potential weapons.
• Provide coverage as relief instructors in specialties other than those for which they have been hired as needed.
• Prepare course work and daily lesson plans. Counsel patients as to their progress in the instructional program and work with patients in establishing and meeting educational and vocational rehabilitation needs and goals.
• Other duties as assigned.
In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:
1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification. There is no exam for this classification at this time , OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
4. BE T&D ELIGIBLE: Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Credential: Possession of a valid California teaching credential which authorizes the holder to teach, on a full-time basis, a vocational course in the appropriate subject specialty or Industrial Arts subspeciality. Applicants who do not possess this credential may take the examination, but must meet the requirements and have an application on file with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the appropriate credential before an appointment can be made and must secure the credential within 120 working days after appointment. After issuance, the credential must be maintained by completion of any required examinations or course work.
*If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant's name may be removed from the eligibility list.
