Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare and train Kentucky's current and future workforces. Our goal is to create and make continuous improvements to an education and workforce system that prepares Kentuckians for the 21st century workforce, while helping businesses find the skilled workers they need to compete and create jobs in the Commonwealth.
The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with disabilities.
We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Specialist I to gain skills to perform professional level vocational rehabilitation functions such as job development and job placement functions, basic public relations functions, supported employment and/or vocational evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Under supervision, learn to provide job placement and readiness services and partners with other professionals to ensure consumers' readiness for employment and to assist in obtaining and maintaining suitable competitive employment.
  • Under supervision, learns to provide training to consumers regarding acceptable work habits in a community based environment.
  • Work closely with consumers to find job openings, complete applications, create resumes, conduct mock interviews, etc.
  • Provide job retention and intervention services as necessary.
  • Under supervision, create and maintain collaborative relationships with employers and other entities to facilitate employment opportunities for consumers.
  • Provide information on reasonable accommodations, disability awareness, labor market information, Americans with Disabilities Act, and work experience opportunities.
  • Under supervision, plan and conduct vocational rehabilitation programs and activities such as classes and other activities to increase consumer job search skills, soft skills, and improve community awareness of vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Enter case documentation into Case Management System and other data bases as required.
  • Collaborate in conjunction with Career Center and others partners to plan, host and participate in job fairs and other community, school and employment events.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching, technology or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, orientation and mobility, social work, education, health services, business administration, human resource administration, workforce development, communications, sciences or a related field.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
