Job Description:
• Assists with planning, directing, and coordinating the operational activities of the Animal Care group and vivarium facilities.
• Maintains a safe and healthy work environment for Associates by establishing and enforcing organizational safety standards and adhering to legal regulations.
• Confirms quality systems are applied in the performance and documentation of husbandry activities.
• Participates in achieving client expectation for timelessness of laboratory studies by assisting in maximizing vivarium capacity, efficient use of caging and space.
• Maintains capacity model to ensure efficient use of vivarium resources.
• Works with In Vivo Biocompatibility and Pre-Clinical Managers to accomplish financial objectives by maintenance of forecasting requirement/capacity tools, providing input for annual capital and expense budget for Animal Care, scheduling expenditures, controlling labor, analyzing variance, and initiating corrective actions.
• Responsible for ordering/receiving/acclimating animals to support testing needs
• Assists in qualifying vendors and ensuring they meet NAMSA requirements/needs
• Maintains qualified staff by assisting with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training Associates.
• Provides input for departmental goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information, identifying and evaluating trends and options, choosing a course of action, defining objectives and evaluating outcomes.
• Assures department adheres to, supports, and implements all corporate policies and SOPs
• Assures compliance with applicable requirements of ISO13485 and 17025, AAALAC, IACUC, FDA, USDA, DEA, OSHA, EPA, and local health agencies.
• Assists with or leads audits for USDA and AAALAC inspections.
• Files annual USDA reports
Qualifications & Technical Competencies:
• Bachelor of Science in a scientific discipline
• Requires 5 years of related laboratory experience and at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Regulatory Interface preferred.
• Fluency in English and local language, if different, required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the NAMSA toxicology testing as related to animal welfare,
• Understanding of applicable guidelines and regulations including USDA, AAALAC, ISO, GLP, USP, FDA, and CTFA.
• Proficient with NAMSA applications, e.g., purchasing software, time clock management, document control, and the CAPA data base.
Working Conditions:
• Physical activities include sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods.
• Physical requirements include bending, light lifting, and carrying and operating laboratory surgical equipment.
• Extensive use of computer keyboard and mouse.
