Job description

The Department of Art at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Printmaking, beginning fall semester 2024. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a commitment to the innovative teaching of printmaking broadly speaking, and who also possess in-depth technical knowledge of traditional and experimental printmaking methods and materials. The ability to teach foundational arts courses including drawing and introductory-level classes across a range of themes is highly desired.

Completion of MFA in a relevant discipline prior to or shortly after the date of hire, recent experience teaching undergraduates, and experience maintaining and developing printmaking facilities is required.

Studio and equipment facilities: The print studio supports monoprint and drypoint, relief and plate lithography, papermaking, risograph and digital printing, as well graphic-arts processes and software (Adobe Creative Cloud).

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about undergraduate teaching from a liberal arts framework, should maintain a robust creative practice with an active exhibition record, and have substantial historical and contemporary knowledge of the field.

The teaching load is equivalent to five courses per year. In addition, faculty members are often called upon to supervise independent study projects, provide individual mentorship, participate in upper-level critiques, and serve as a committee member for senior undergraduate theses/projects. Studio faculty are also responsible for the oversight of facilities and support staff within the context of a collaborative work setting.

Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. A complete application will include the following and must be submitted through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/140775.

  1. cover letter
  2. CV
  3. statement of teaching philosophy, which should address how the candidate’s teaching might create an inclusive educational environment
  4. portfolio of 10 images
  5. current reference letters, or the names of three individuals who would be prepared to submit reference letters at a later date

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
