Videographer - UAW Communications Department
The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is a 400,000-member-strong, progressive, fighting union with one of the largest and most diverse memberships in North America. Our members are employed in a range of workplaces, from multinational corporations to small manufacturers, state and local governments, colleges and universities, hospitals, and private non-profit organizations.
The UAW is building an ambitious communications program to educate, inspire, and move working class people to action. We are seeking an experienced videographer to join our Communications Department to produce, shoot, and edit quick turnaround, hard-hitting video content to drive our mission.
Candidates should bring an organizing mindset to video, have experience in political, labor, or social movements and be excited to join a fast-paced creative environment to build power for the working class.
Candidates must be willing to work long and irregular hours and to travel frequently with overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce, script, shoot, and edit videos featuring workers and UAW campaigns.
- Generate ideas for video content to support campaigns and move our union’s message.
- Collaborate with our Communications Director, video team, and digital team to develop effective video content.
- Assist in building press plans and engaging with local media as directed on a campaign basis.
- Assisting with the development of content for internal member communications.
- Editing and revising communications content to ensure consistent messaging across our union.
- Covering in-person rallies and events around the country.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Ability to produce, direct, shoot, and edit high quality video on tight timelines, in high-pressure field settings, both solo and with a small team.
- Must have a recent reel, website, or work samples that demonstrate one's abilities in all of the above aspects.
- Proficiency required in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, including Premiere Pro and After Effects, or comparable software.
- Willingness to travel on short notice as campaigns require.
- Experience in fast-paced creative team environment.
- Experience in the labor movement, progressive politics, or social movements.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, and manage time and priorities.
- An organizing mindset to create approachable and compelling communications materials.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback in a creative team environment.
- Eagerness and ability to learn about the sectors represented by the UAW, and a commitment to the mission of the UAW.
- Ability to generate compelling video assets with minimal guidance.
- A valid driver’s license.
Successful candidates will exhibit discerning judgment, exemplary people skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate is both a team player who can collaborate with an enthusiastic staff and a self-driven individual adept at time and task management.
Salary and Benefits
This is a full time, exempt position, represented by the Newspaper Guild/Communications Workers of America, based in Detroit, Michigan. The UAW offers a starting salary of $106,438 with a 3-year progression to $118,265, along with best-in-class health, retirement, and paid time off benefits. Relocation may be available.
