Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position ofVictim Advocatewithin the Prosecutor's Office.
This role provides information and support services to victims of crime and act as a liaison between the victim and Prosecutor's Office. The Victim Advocate notifies victims of crime of their Constitutional Victims' Rights throughout the criminal justice process. This position accompanies victims of crime and witnesses to various court proceedings, and assists them by providing notification, case information, advocacy, and identifies immediate needs and connects victims with appropriate resources.
Some of the responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: provide assistance to victims in obtaining protective orders and coordinate efforts for service; provide assistance to victims based on the victims own safety plan; notify victims of victims' right to request restitution as noted in the Victims' Bill of Rights; review documents and prepare for court filing, provide assistance with the preparation of Victim Compensation applications; notify victims of victims' right to be heard through a Victim Impact Statement as noted in the Victims' Bill of Rights; facilitate the delivery of the Victim Impact Statement to the court; provide criminal justice support and advocacy to victims of crime which includes accompaniment to court, preparation for trials/hearings, explaining plea offer, and advise victims of their rights through the various stages in the criminal court case. Provide crisis intervention by making assessments on the victim's immediate need; appear in court on behalf of a victim when requested; determine which victims' rights apply during each stage in the case; provide emotional support and guidance, determine appropriate response and provide resources as necessary; notify victims of their rights and the court process when suspects have been arrested and are scheduled on the in-custody docket; examine each case for safety issues, lethality, medical needs and restitution. Obtain vital information for the prosecutor/court to determine release conditions and/or sentencing conditions; review all lethality assessments in domestic violence cases which includes in-custody cases and long form complaints; outreach the victim based on severity of the lethality assessment. Perform safety planning, provide crisis intervention, and ascertain suitable resources based on the victim's need; provide customer service to victim and witnesses of crime, general public, community partners and various criminal justice organizations; identify needs and explain the operation of the criminal justice system, coordinate efforts with other service providers; communicate with Prosecutor regarding victim contact, input, invocation of rights, and restitution requests; review police reports to identify victims in filed cases as well as cases under review; maintain electronic case files, update events, review working queues, and provide cases notes for Prosecutor review; represent Town on Boards or at meetings relating to victim services and victim rights.

- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, Human Services, Psychology, or other related field
- Three years of customer service experience
- One year of experience in case management and Victims' Rights
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
- Completion of National Victim Assistance Academy (NVAA) or state academy, preferred
