The compensation philosophy reflects the Company’s reasonable expectation at the time of posting. We consider a number of factors when making individual compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, and other business needs. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive program, subject to the rule governing the program.

 

Position Summary:  

The Vice President (VP), Safety and Compliance oversees strategy, management and execution of safety related programs and Compliance across the company, including the manufacturing, warehousing, sales, merchandising, delivery and field service teams. This position establishes standards, implements procedures and training to ensure compliance with regulatory code requirements, laws, policies and procedures to drive effectiveness and efficiency. The VP, Safety and Compliance provides leadership and vision in driving a strong Safety and Compliance program. This position ensures that safety processes and culture are aligned to the company’s purpose and values. The VP, Safety and Compliance develops and communicates a vision that inspires and aligns with the company’s business strategy.

 

Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to: 

  • Provide leadership and direction for driving a safety culture and environment that encompasses cultural values and is prioritized throughout the company
  • Ensure compliance with all regulated standards including Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc.
  • Oversee audit strategy related to Safety and Compliance processes and ensure gaps are identified and corrective actions put into place
  • Develop and train leaders to enable a safety culture that is preventative, proactive, and accountable for results at every level of the company
  • Oversee for all aspects of driver and material handling equipment safety training, manufacturing equipment safety training, field service safety training, lock out, tag out, accident prevention, safety campaigns and driver and manager accountability
  • Oversee all aspects of safety training, accident prevention, life-saving rules, safety campaigns and manager accountability
  • Ensure appropriate strategy is in place for safety training programs, targeted at reducing injuries and accidents and maintaining DOT compliance
  • Ensure DOT safety training is designed and executed in an effective manner and that results are measurable
  • Work cross-functionally to create a culture of safety throughout the company, as well as build collaborative relationships across the enterprise
  • Drive and manage change related to safety by supporting cross-functional initiatives from a Safety and training perspective
  • Deliver results from Safety and risk management initiatives
  • Ensure standard processes and metrics are in place to manage safety
  • Identify and implement best practices and drive continuous improvement efforts that result in exceptional safety practices
  • Leverage data to identify at-risk behavior trends, target actions and communications specific to mitigating identified risks
  • Lead and develop a team of safety professionals and provide leadership to support achievement of all relevant performance goals
  • Leverage data to evaluate safety program effectiveness and identify safety trends to anticipate potential risks as well as create strategies and drive actions to address and mitigate identified risk
  • Other projects or duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, 15 plus years of experience in occupational safety & health, risk management, compliance and/or related field and 8 plus years of people leadership experience
  • Experience working in a warehouse, distribution and/or manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with all levels of an organization and outside agencies
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent influencing skills
  • Experience building strategic and operational plans
  • Experience with process improvement, value stream mapping and process reengineering
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite i.e., Word, PowerPoint and Excel, etc.
  • Travel up to 50%
  • This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test

Preferred Skills and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree or other graduate degree
  • Certificate in Safety Management, Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS) or similar certification
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) certification or similar certification
  • Risk Control experience
