WSP USA is currently initiating a search for Vice President, Lead Dam Engineer for our office in New York, New York. The following locations will also be considered: Valhalla NY, Buffalo NY, Morriston, NJ or Philladephia, PA. WSP is investing in transformational growth in our Water business, and we are seeking passionate, driven leaders who are ready to help grow our portfolio and reputation in the water resources/dam engineering market.
Provides leadership within a sector of organization to ensure water resources engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards. Responsible for SME innovation and administration; ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal environmental and safety regulations; and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future environmental challenges in a rapidly-changing and complex business climate.
Your Impact- The Lead Dam Engineer will lead the growth, operations, project delivery and client success for WSP’s dam and water resource business in the New York District and Northeast Region. This practice provides services on a wide range of projects including dams and appurtenant structures, levees, floodwalls, penstocks, instrumentation monitoring and evaluation, and licensing/permitting. Our hydrologic and hydrologic modelers evaluate spillway performance, coastal storm surges, and sediment transport using 2-D and 3-D models.
- This dynamic position will require leading a team of technical practitioners and “seller-doers” to develop new client relationships and enhance existing ones, win new work, and deliver projects of the highest quality for our clients. Key performance indicators include Days Sales Outstanding, Utilization, Backlog, promoting Inclusion & Diversity initiatives and adherence to WSP’s Guiding Principles.
- The successful candidate will operate from a mutually agreed office within the region.
- Perform and review dam safety inspections and prepare reports in conformance with state or federal regulatory guidelines.
- Review and supervise development of the following: hydraulic, geotechnical and structural design calculations, modeling studies, engineering drawings, reports, project standards and specifications, quantity take-offs, engineering cost estimates, and permit applications for projects involving hydraulic structures
- Apply regulatory knowledge with USACE, FEMA, NYSDEC, FERC, USBR, and other local, state and federal agencies and regulators.
- Demonstrated experience with dam stability analysis, seismicity issues, flood hydrology, mechanical design knowledge, geotechnical knowledge, dam monitoring and instrumentation, dam operations, and risk assessment preferred.
- Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant post education experience in dam engineering, preferably with at least 3 years of related experience in the New York/New Jersey Region
- Engineer license required (multi-state preferred) or ability to obtain within 12 months
- Specialized dam engineering expertise with a strong background in the fields of geotechnical or structural engineering
- Strong analytical and design skills
- Experience building business through external client engagement and internal sales management processes
- Budget management / enterprise business aptitude
- Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistence and being goal-oriented
- Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement
- Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes
- Commitment to internal and external client service

- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.

Expected Salary: $125,200- $255,400
