Starting Hiring Range: $142,271.96 to $168,662.15

The Director of Public Works is a trusted member of the executive leadership team and responsible for managing many of the City's largest projects over the next ten years
including expansion of the roadway network and collaborating to expand electric vehicle infrastructure. This position oversees engineering, construction, and maintenance for the City's roadway network and associated infrastructure. Position Summary

The Director of Public Works can expect to oversee the activities and operations of the Public Works department, including street services and infrastructure construction
inspection. This includes, but is not limited to, directing and managing engineering services and functions related to public right-of-way, public parking and related
improvements; the design, construction, inspection, management, and maintenance of

all public rights-of-way, municipal parking areas, and related public improvements within the City; coordinating assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and providing administrative support to the City Manager. This position works under the direction of the Deputy City Manager and City Manager and exercises direct supervision over assigned staff. The ideal candidate will come from a background in public works within a local municipality with experience in leadership and management.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Infrastructure Management, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of professional public works experience including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, practices, and techniques of comprehensive public works management, construction, inspection, and maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws: City ordinances, codes, rules, regulations, specifications, and standards governing the administration of public works functions and activities.
  • Modern advanced principles and practices of public administration and program development, including municipal budget preparation and administration, purchasing and the maintenance of public records.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions: sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, and demonstrate manual dexterity.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado is desirable, but not required.
