Job Overview:

The Vice President, Human Resources provides the overall strategic human resources vision and leadership to the JCC. Reporting to the Executive Vice President with dotted line to the Chief Executive Officer, this role leads the development and execution of the full scope of human resources including employee relations, benefits, compensation, hiring, professional development, performance management and oversight of the Human Capital Management (HCM) system. This position oversees a Human Resources Coordinator and provides support to a workforce of 164 full time, 340 part-time as well as 60 contract/temporary and 175 seasonal employees across NYC based locations. The Vice President, Human Resources is a key member of the Leadership Team.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Builds trust and partners effectively with a broad range of individuals, including the CEO, EVP, leadership team members, managers and employees.
  • Serves as an advisor and sounding board for the institutions' senior leaders, providing guidance on human resources issues.
  • Partners with isolved (the HCM) on the overall management, efficiency and effectiveness of the modules including Managed Benefits, Benefit Services, Elite People Services and Time and Attendance.
  • Provides additional benefit support to employees on their medical, benefit, 403B, FSA, voluntary and other insurances. This includes working in partnership with isolved (the HCM) on FMLA, leave and other time away from work situations.
  • Partners with Rampart Brokerage on the design and coverage of the medical and dental benefit plans and programs.
  • Provides oversight and management for the 403 (b) Program.
  • Oversees all employee relations activities including investigations, addressing grievances and providing advice and counsel to managers for a positive work environment.
  • Ensures that the performance management evaluation process continues to support the institutions strategic plan and the continued professional and personal development of staff.
  • Partners with EAT (Equity Action Team) on the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Antiracism initiatives and plans at JCC.
  • Develops and implements a competitive compensation philosophy and structure including pay grades, ranges.
  • Develops, reviews and implements progressive human resources policies, best practices and procedures to maximize organizational effectiveness, retention and employee satisfaction.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant state, federal and local labor laws and reporting requirements.
  • Manages a full time Human Resources Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Broad experience as a human resources business partner with exposure to all core functions including compensation, leadership and management development, employee relations and change management.
  • Deep experience in benefit plans and programs including health, dental, FSA and voluntary programs along with 403 (b).
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive human resources generalist experience supporting institutions with a mix of full time, part-time, temporary, seasonal employees and contractors.
  • Team player and collaborator with ability to contribute at both the strategic and operational levels.
  • Strong employee relations experience as well as counseling and advising on sensitive issues. Experience working with and supporting a diverse, inclusive employee community.
  • Outstanding judgement and discretion in handling sensitive matters. Demonstrates integrity and positive attitude.
  • An enthusiastic, creative, flexible leader who can juggle multiple conflicting priorities and move rapidly from one project to another all while maintaining a sense of humor, humility and a sense of perspective.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • An advanced degree in Human Resources or a related field is a plus.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of the institution.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000


Location and Commitments:

  • Current hybrid work schedule: 4 days/week in office
  • Located at 334 Amsterdam Avenue/76th Street, New York, NY
