Overview /Objective
The Vice President, Head of Flag Football is a critical leadership role whose primary objectives is to: 1) serve as the clear, accountable lead within the NFL responsible for integrating the cross-organizational priority that is Flag Football; and 2) accelerate the delivery of positive outcomes for the League and 32 clubs related to the Flag Football growth opportunity, including football participation growth in the U.S. and globally, fan growth, commercial and media partnerships, and successful development of the entire Flag Football ecosystem.
Flag football is one of the fastest growth sports in the U.S. and globally among girls and boys, women and men. Its growth and stature are accelerating rapidly not only at the youth level, but also high school, college, and elite levels, including its entrance as an Olympic sport for the LA28 Games. This opportunity has driven terrific cross-organizational efforts within the NFL offices, 32 clubs and partners. The core league functions with resources significantly focused on Flag Football development include Football Operations, International, Marketing, Media, Club Business Development, Major Events and Corporate Strategy.
This Flag Football leadership role will sit at the very center of the integrated Flag Football strategic planning, prioritization, and project management-ensuring that no opportunities are missed, integrated and efficient processes are run, and accountability and measurement is consistent and clear.
Success in this role is to accelerate the current momentum of Flag Football in establishing it as a transformative domestic and global sport, significantly growing both participation and fanbase.
The position will be based in the NFL's New York City office and will require some domestic and international travel including for events and external meetings. Travel estimated at ~15% of total work time.
The role will report directly to the NFL's Executive Vice President of Football Operations, with close matrixed alignment with the Executive Vice President of International, Events and Club Business Development.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integrated, cross-organizational strategy and planning for all facets of the Flag Football priority.
- Partner with Flag stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment, integrated budget/ resource planning and prioritization is clear, external partner management is consistent, and Flag Football business development and innovation is continuous.
- Build upon the current strategic Flag football business plan to ensure alignment with the NFL's long-range planning, and define and clearly communicate how the NFL, its Clubs, Players, and Partners can integrate and participate in all aspects of the Flag Football ecosystem.
- Integrate the NFL Flag Football planning and processes across stakeholder departments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Establish Flag as a transformative domestic and global sport, significantly growing both participation and fanbase.
- Facilitate alignment, optimization and development of external partnerships across all facets of Flag Football-youth, high school, college, adult and professional/elite.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree; MBA preferred.
- Minimum 12-15+ years of professional experience with a focus on sports, media, business strategy, project management
- Knowledge of the NFL / football ecosystem a plus
- Proven leadership experience driving and influencing complex, cross-organizational internal teams, as well as external stakeholders.
- A balance of strong strategic planning skills coupled with a willingness to be hands-on in developing and executing programs and ideas.
- Outstanding project management skills with a focus on detail orientation
- A confident decisionmaker who is effective at synthesizing perspectives and opinions and then driving decisions and processes forward.
- A leader who has a consistent track record of building trusting and aligned partnerships and relationships
- An entrepreneurial spirit, who is willing to take calculated risks given the relatively immature landscape surrounding Flag Football.
- Exceptional negotiation, writing and communications skills.

Travel
This position will require some domestic and international travel including for events and external meetings. Travel is estimated at ~15% of total work time.
Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
Terms / Expected Hours of Work
- NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week. This role may often require hours on nights and/or weekends as well.
